MNC to Address the Concerns of Medical Students for Pending Recognition Status

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made an important step towards alleviating the concerns of medical students who have passed their final year MBBS exams but are unable to engage in the mandated internship programme due to their medical colleges’ awaiting recognition status. With a recent move, the NMC has permitted all of these medical graduates to gain provisional registration with the relevant State Medical Council, regardless of the status of their medical institutions’ recognition. This decision provides relief to many medical students around the country who are encountering challenges in furthering their careers.

Background: The Pending Recognition Problem

Many colleges in India are now awaiting accreditation from the supreme medical authority. This circumstance has caused problems for both medical students and graduates from these universities. Medical graduates are unable to participate in the postgraduate medical admissions process due to a lack of recognition, stifling their professional development. The inability to register with the State Medical Faculty due to a lack of recognition exacerbates the dilemma, leaving aspiring doctors in limbo.

The Situation of Medical Graduates in Uttar Pradesh

  • Approximately 300 medical graduates in Uttar Pradesh are dealing with the ramifications of their colleges’ awaiting recognised status.
  • These graduates are unable to register with the State Medical Faculty and hence cannot take postgraduate entrance examinations.
  • Because of the lack of recognition, medical graduates from the 2017 batch are vulnerable, as they are unable to participate in necessary exams.
  • The scenario also affects the 2018 MBBS class, who are set to finish their studies and face an uncertain future.
  • While one medical college just got NMC certification, the fate of others is unknown, prolonging the state’s fight for medical graduates.

Government Doon Medical College Graduates’ Predicament

  • Medical graduates from Uttarakhand’s Government Doon Medical College face comparable issues.
  • Their inability to participate in important post-graduate entrance exams is hampered by their lack of recognition from the supreme medical body.
  • These graduates are unable to take examinations such as the National Eligibility-cum-Entry Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG), Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INICET), United States Medical Licencing Examination (USMLE), and Professional Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB).
  • Recognising the gravity of the situation, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) recently petitioned Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, blaming the NMC’s blanket permit for compounding the problem.

Provisional Registration Relief from the NMC

The NMC has issued a Public Notice explaining its remedial measures in response to the plight of medical students and graduates due to pending recognition. According to Shambhu Sharan Kumar, Director of UG Medical Education Board, all Indian Medical Graduates who have cleared their final MBBS examinations until the Academic Year 2022-2023 will be granted provisional registration in the concerned State Medical Council and subsequent internship in their Parent Colleges immediately, regardless of the recognition status of their medical colleges. The NMC’s action aims to reduce the difficulties that medical graduates experience and ensure that they can continue with their internship programme and other job prospects.

The Ayush College Scam: Uncovering the Truth

The Ayush College scandal has shook the education sector, exposing a labyrinth of deception and corruption. This article delves into the specifics of the incident that has ruined Ayush College’s image and sent shockwaves throughout the academic community. Let us now go on to better understand the situation around this hoax.

The Seat Allocation and Counselling Process

The Directorate of Ayurveda formed a board for counselling in Ayush College admissions in 2021-22. Due to the lack of an IT cell, the counselling contract was assigned to the private firm Soft Solution, which was overseen by the board. Soft Solution, a subsidiary of Uptran Powertronics Ltd., was chosen to conduct the full counselling process, which began on February 1, 2022 and finished in four stages on May 19, 2022.

A total of 7,338 seats in government and private colleges across the state were made available for admission during this process. The private agency in charge of counselling and verification controlled the entire procedure, including seat allocation. However, upon closer examination, it was determined that the merit list for NEET counselling omitted the data of 1,181 candidates. Surprisingly, 22 of these youngsters had not even taken the NEET exam. Out of the 1,181 students, 927 were eventually assigned seats, and 891 accepted the offers.

Six students have been suspended.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Directorate of Ayurveda forwarded a list of suspicious students to the individual Ayurvedic colleges, along with their names and addresses. The colleges were told to cancel these kids’ admissions. As a result, the Principal of Government Ayurvedic College, Lucknow, suspended six students who were discovered to be participating in the scam on October 28. Yamuna Vihar, Aditi Mishra of Prayagraj, Khushbu Patel of Jankipuram Lucknow, Ruchi Bhargava of Daulatpur Barabanki, Sandhya Sonkar of Haraiya Basti, Satyajit Rai of Gangapur Akelwa Varanasi, and Tausif Ahmed of Pachpedwa Dhamauli Balrampur were among those suspended.

Tampering with the NEET database and website

Tampering allegations extend beyond the NEET database and include the website as well. Soft Solution, a private agency, is suspected of not just tampering with the NEET database but also with the linked website. Investigations have shown alterations in the DGME (Directorate General of Medical Education) database and the private agency’s records. Furthermore, it was determined during the inquiry that the private agency operator had corrupted the RDBD (Relational Database Design) of the hard disc seized from the DGME office.

High Court orders CBI to investigate fraudulent admissions at Ayush colleges

Former ministers and officials are being investigated.

In a momentous milestone, the High Court’s Lucknow bench has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the fraudulent admissions in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayush colleges. The court has also ordered harsh action if any suspicious role involving former minister Dharam Singh Saini and the then-Additional Chief Secretary is discovered. This order was issued after seats were allegedly auctioned for five lakh rupees without NEET counselling. Let us look into the specifics of this case and its implications.

The UP Government’s Recommendation for a CBI Investigation

The Ayush college scam was discovered in November 2022. The Uttar Pradesh government has twice urged that the case be investigated by the CBI. However, the CBI originally took no further action. With the recent High Court judgment, the CBI will now launch a full inquiry into the Ayush college admissions scam.

Former Minister Charged with Bribery

The statement made by Raj Kumar Diwakar, the personal secretary of then-AYUSH minister Dharam Singh Saini, is one of the important variables that could complicate matters. The secretary claims that Saini accepted a bribe of Rs 1 crore 10 lakh for the recognition of UG degrees in AYUSH institutes and Rs 50 lakh for PG courses. This statement was presented to the court and adds major weight to the allegations leveled against the former minister.

14.99 Lakh Applications in CUET-UG, 50% More Than Last Time

Maximum Applications Came for These Two Universities

This year, there were a record number of applications for the Common University Entrance Test, which determines admission to undergraduate programmes at institutions all over India. In fact, compared to last year, the number of applications has climbed by more than 50%. In contrast to last year, when only 9.9 lakh students applied, this year, a total of 14.99 lakh students have registered for CUET-UG and submitted their application forms.

The competition for admission has become more difficult as a result of the increase in applications, particularly at universities where the most applications are submitted. Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University have once again received the most applications, per the trend. We will examine the causes of this increase in applications, the universities that have gotten the most applications, and the implications for the students in this article.

Reasons for the Increase in Applications

The higher awareness among the students is one of the main causes of the increase in applications this year. When CUET was originally introduced last year, a large number of students took the test for various reasons. The pupils who were unable to take the exam last year, however, have also applied this year. Furthermore, the students are aware that they would not be admitted to prestigious universities without CUET. The number of applications has also increased as a result of numerous scientific students applying for NEET, JEE Main, and CUET.

Universities with the most applications

Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University have once again got the most applications, as they did last year. Applications have been submitted to both of these universities from all over the nation. There are about 28.4 lakh applications for the 73 undergraduate programmes that Delhi University grants admission to, which equates to about 39 thousand applications per course.

Furthermore, both Chemistry and Physics have received more than 6 lakh applications each. The most applications were sent to Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Allahabad University, and Jamia Millia Islamia. In the CUET, a candidate may take up to 10 subjects. The majority of applications were from UP, Delhi, and Bihar.

The Upcoming Competition

The increase in applications suggests that this year’s admissions process will be more competitive. Additionally, there will be more competition for admission because there are now 242 universities participating in CUET, up from 90. Universities will admit students to dual degree programmes in addition to the regular BA, B.Com, and B.Sc. programmes based on their CUET scores. They can choose between Admission may also be made based on CUET results for BBA-LLB, BA-LLB, BSC-MSC, and BA-MA programmes. On the basis of this score, several universities admit students into five-year integrated programmes.

The increased interest in higher education in India is evidenced by the record number of applications received for CUET-UG this year. The kids are prepared to put in a lot of effort to get a decent education because they realise that it is the key to success in life. The children will have to study hard for the examinations and compete against other applicants to get into the university of their choice.
