Following COVID, there was a 15%+ surge in NEET UG registrations. In the last four years, there has been a 23% growth in the number of applicants for the NEET UG exam. Both the number of registered male and female candidates has increased in a comparable manner.
NEET UG 2023 The registration period for the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2023 was launched by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday. Applying is possible at the official NTA website, neet.nta.nic.in.
18,72,343 applicants enrolled for the NEET UG exam in 2022, and 17,64,571 of them showed up at 3,570 different testing locations spread across 497 cities, including 14 places outside of India.
According to NTA data, Maharashtra had the most NEET UG registrations last year (2.55 lakh), with 2.4 lakh applicants showing up for the exam and 1.13 lakh passing.

With 2.29 lakh registrations and 2.19 lakh attendees, UP was the second-highest state in terms of candidates, after Maharashtra (out of which 1.17 lakh qualified). According to information provided by the NTA, 1.13 lakh candidates qualified, followed by Tamil Nadu (1.42 lakh registrations), Karnataka (1.33 lakh registrations), and Kerala (1.28 lakh registrants).
According to information released by the NTA, the number of candidates who registered for the NEET UG exam has climbed by 23% over the last four years, and the number of candidates who took the medical entrance exam has also increased by 25%.

A total of 15.1 lakh students enrolled for the exams in 2019; 14.1 lahks of them showed up for the exam. In 2020, these figures rose to 15.9 lakh registrations and 13.6 lakh attendance. The amount thereafter experienced significant growth, reaching 16.1 lakh registrations in 2021, of which 15.4 lakh appeared for the exam.
Following Covid, the number of NEET UG registrations soared to 18.7 lakhs in 2022, up more than 15%, and the number of applicants climbed from 15.4 lakhs to 17.6 lakhs, or 14.2%, as well.
Over the past four years, there has also been a growth in both the number of male and female applicants registering for the NEET UG exam. Male candidates climbed by 18.68% from 6.8 lahks in 2019 to 8.07 lakh in 2022, while female candidates increased by 26.1%. (8.3 lahks in 2019 to 10.6 lakh in 2022).
While the number of candidates has increased for both men and women from 2021 to 2022 by 13% and 17%, respectively, a similar trend has not been seen in the registrations of transgender candidates. In the last four years, the number of transgender candidates climbed by 83.3% (6 in 2019 to 11 in 2022), but declined from 15 in 2021.
