The Directorate of Medical Education’s selection committee predicts that the MBBS counselling procedure will start on July 17 for the academic year 2023–2024. This year, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has suggested concurrent online counselling for the first round of All India Quota seats in government and self-financing colleges by the state selection committee and the center’s medical counselling. The action tries to speed up the counselling process and prevent candidates from “blocking seats.”
Counselling for the All India Quota and the State Quota at the Same Time
An employee of the directorate said, “We have been told to get ready for the process by July 17. The Centre has not yet announced the rules and schedule for the simultaneous counselling.” The center’s committee traditionally finishes the first round of counselling for All India quota seats in state colleges, central institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER, and for deemed universities before the first round of counselling in the state gets started. To expedite the procedure and guarantee impartiality, the counselling process will be carried out concurrently this year.
Extending the deadline for applications
For the 2023–2024 session, the state of Tamil Nadu has agreed to extend the deadline for receiving MBBS/BDS applications to 5 p.m. on July 12. Previously, a notice from the directorate said that the deadline for submitting an application was July 7. By the extended deadline of July 12, more applications are anticipated to be submitted. The state has already received 30,912 applications. On June 28, the application sale officially began online, and on the official websites of www.tnhealth.tn.gov.in and www.tnmedicalselection.org, interested candidates could access the prospectus and application forms.
Information That Candidates Should Know
While the state medical university will supply the seat matrix for state-level counselling, the NMC will publish the counselling regulations. Candidates must submit their applications through the approved portal in order to be considered for admission to the MBBS/BDS degree programmes for the 2023–2024 academic year under the “Person with Benchmark Disability” quota. Prior to now, the screening committee had demanded that candidates submit disability certificates from Chennai’s Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital’s Regional Medical Board. Candidates were urged to submit their applications without the e-certificates in the event that the hospital’s access to the site was restricted.
The portal is now online, though, so applicants who have already submitted their applications without the disability certificate can log in and upload it. Candidates must make sure that these certificates are uploaded prior to the deadline; otherwise, their eligibility for the quota won’t be taken into account.
On July 17, the MBBS counselling process for the academic year 2023–2024 is scheduled to get underway, combining the state quota and all-India quota seats in one concurrent online counselling process. The process of counselling will be streamlined and seat blockage will be avoided. Aspiring applicants are invited to submit their applications before the July 12 extension deadline, keeping in mind the particular specifications and instructions for the application procedure. Candidates who are applying under the “Person with Benchmark Disability” quota should make sure that their disability certifications are submitted through the approved portal in order to be considered for the quota.
