AIIMS treated 48 Lakh Patients in a Year, Sets New Record in Patient Care
New Delhi: AIIMS, the biggest and most esteemed medical facility in the country, has achieved another milestone in patient care. About 4.8 million patients were treated in the OPD in a year, setting a new record. During this period, 3,21,847 patients were admitted in AIIMS for the first time.
Indeed, AIIMS marked its 69th Foundation Day on Wednesday and showcased the services offered to patients during the previous year (2023-24). AIIMS has resumed its traditional treatment methods post-COVID and, as usual, has broken another record this year. The major achievement is that AIIMS has conducted surgeries for 2,79,296 patients within one year, marking the highest number of surgeries done in a single year at AIIMS.
Furthermore, the significant achievement is that AIIMS has greatly reduced the mortality rate in addition to improving treatment. During the 2022-23 period, the main hospital saw a mortality rate of 1.6 percent, which decreased to 1.4 percent in 2023-24. Simultaneously, the Cardio Neuro Center’s mortality rate was 4.1 percent, but has now lowered it to 2.4 percent. Nevertheless, the mortality rate at the Trauma Center has seen a rise. Earlier, there was a 5.31 percent rate, which has since increased to 5.90 percent.
AIIMS will collect input from patients via the ‘Santusht’ portal
AIIMS has introduced the Santusht portal to assess the satisfaction levels of its patients. This helps in determining if patients are content with the doctors’ treatment, nurses’ care, and hospital facilities. AIIMS has initiated treating patients and gathering feedback to solve their issues on its 69th Foundation Day.
To do this, the patient must visit the AIIMS portal SANTUSHT and sign up with their UHID number. As per AIIMS, you are encouraged to discuss any issues you may be experiencing and offer possible solutions. It has been stated that following this, a representative from AIIMS will get in touch with the person making the complaint and will also provide updates when a resolution is reached.
What did the Union Minister say?
While speaking, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, mentioned that AIIMS is the top institution in India for medical education, research, and patient care. Jadhav mentioned that AIIMS intends to construct a new hostel complex comprising 2200 rooms at a projected cost of around Rs 900 crore. Simultaneously, patient bed capacity has grown by over 30% in the past two years, with a 40% increase in ICU and operating room services.
In addition, AIIMS and Delhi Fire Station collaborated to construct a new fire station on Wednesday in order to enhance fire safety at AIIMS. It is equipped with a 1,000-gallon water capacity fire engine, commanded by a sub-officer and accompanied by 6 firefighters. This station is the inaugural one for any organization.
Conclusion
As AIIMS celebrates its 69th anniversary, it stands as a beacon of hope and healing, having treated millions while continually striving for excellence. With innovative initiatives like the Santusht portal and ongoing infrastructural improvements, AIIMS is not just responding to the healthcare needs of today but is also preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.
