NMC may Announce Cancellation of NEXT Mock Test and Fee Refunds. Furthermore, the commission has guaranteed the candidates that the monies received from them for the NEXT mock exam will be returned. Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the NMC Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB), verified the information in a tweet. However, no formal notification of this cancellation has been issued by the NMC.

The decision to cancel the NEXT mock test was made in response to a request from physicians and candidates. NMC may announce the cancellation of NEXT Mock Test and Fee Refunds. The NMC has previously produced a NEXT exam information pamphlet, suggesting that a mock/practice test will be held on July 28, 2023. The mock exam registration procedure had begun on June 28, 2023.

Hefty Fees For NEXT Mock Exam

The application cost for the NEXT mock exam was fixed.  The fees was Rs 2,000 for General and OBC category candidates, and Rs 1,000 for SC, ST, and EWS students. Persons with Disabilities (PWD) were not required to pay any costs to take the mock exam. However, immediately after the information booklet was published. The medical students and professionals expressed their dissatisfaction with the plan to collect money for the mock exam.

The NMC was chastised by aspirants and physicians, who said that the enforcement of such hefty fees was a tool for the government to gain cash. They urged that the mock/practice test be free of charge and that hopefuls be able to take it from the comfort of their own homes.

Following student and doctor concerns, the Union Health Ministry asked the NMC to consider waiving the mock test expenses. As a result, talks began inside the NMC, the highest medical education regulating authority. In the midst of the NEXT turmoil, the NMC just stated that the test has been postponed until further notice from the Union Health Ministry.

The NMC informed all stakeholders through public notice that the NEXT test has been postponed based on Ministry guidance. “All stakeholders are hereby informed that the NEXT examination has been postponed on the advice of the Ministry, dated 11.07.2023, until further directions from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,” the notice noted.

Following the NMC’s remarks, physicians and students began to demand clarification over the significant fees received from students. Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the NMC, has now told the students that the mock/practice test would be cancelled and that their costs will be refunded. However, no formal notification of the cancellation and refund process has been sent.

Conclusion

Finally, the NMC has decided to cancel the National Exit exam (NEXT) mock exam set for July 28, 2023. The NMC has also guaranteed candidates that the NEXT mock test money will be returned. This information was validated by Dr. Yogender Malik, a member of the NMC. However, the NMC has yet to issue a formal announcement. This decision was made because physicians and candidates expressed concerns about the mock test expenses. The NMC’s decision to cancel the mock exam and begin the refund procedure is intended to satisfy the requests. To relieve the applicants’ financial burden the NMC has taken this decision.

IIT-I Healthcare Center of Excellence with AIIMS and MYH

IIT-I Healthcare Center of Excellence with AIIMS and MYH. The Indian Institute of Technology, Indore (IIT-I) will work with AIIMS, Delhi. To build a Healthcare Centre of Excellence (CoE). This programme is part of the efforts of the DRISHTI CPS Foundation. It is an IIT-I Technology Innovation Hub supported by the Department of Science and Technology. It integrates Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) with healthcare in order to improve patient care and medical results.

Introduction to the Healthcare CoE

The projected IIT-I Healthcare  CoE would use Cyber-Physical Systems to forecast difficulties in patients receiving treatment. It will allow clinicians to take preventive steps. Using the Internet of Things (IoT), the CoE will monitor the operation of critical care equipment such as CT machines, MRI machines, and ventilators using computer-based algorithms. This real-time monitoring will aid in the early detection of operational flaws, the provision of essential training, and the advancement of healthcare research.

AIIMS and Other Institutions Collaboration

Aside from AIIMS, IIT-I’s DRISHTI CPS Foundation is in talks with MY Hospital Indore, the Software Technology Park of India (STPI), and other significant stakeholders in the healthcare business. The purpose is to encourage collaboration among many stakeholders and to build a strong ecosystem for healthcare innovation and growth.

Professor Bhupesh Lad, project director of DRISHTI CPS Foundation, expressed excitement over the Centre of Excellence’s formation. “We are working on establishing a Centre of Excellence in healthcare, for which we are in discussions with the state government and other stakeholders,” he said. AIIMS, as well as the Software Technology Park of India and MY Hospital, are being discussed.”

Using Cyber-Physical Systems to Address Healthcare Challenges

Dr. Deepak Agrawal, a neurosurgeon at AIIMS in Delhi, stressed the importance of incorporating cyber-physical systems into the healthcare industry. He emphasised that the effort offers vital insights on resolving healthcare issues. The CoE will focus on constructing a virtual version of ventilated brain trauma patients as part of a cooperative initiative between AIIMS and DRISHTI CPS, IIT Indore. This comprises real-time cloud sharing of important patient data and ventilator parameters, allowing predictive modelling to spot probable issues early. This proactive strategy will let professionals take preventive steps as soon as possible.

“The healthcare sector has been somewhat neglected,” Dr. Agrawal continued, “and through this initiative, we learned that many healthcare problems can be solved through cyber-physical systems.” We are working on a cooperative project with DRISHTI CPS, IIT Indore, to create a cyber-version of ventilated brain trauma patients… This will aid in anticipating issues before they occur, allowing physicians to take preventive steps.”

IIT-I Healthcare Center of Excellence Collaboration and Future Prospects

A team of 8-10 specialists specialising in several medical specialties, including medicine, emergency care, neurosurgery, critical care, and cardiology, will work on this effort to assure its success. Initially, the system will notify clinicians of issues such as pulmonary edoema, pneumonia, and cardiac overload in patients. Medical practitioners can take remedial steps more quickly if they get timely alerts, potentially saving lives and improving patient outcomes.

The DRISHTI CPS Foundation recently organised the inaugural “SETU” (Stakeholder Engagement in Technology Upgradation) event. It was intended to showcase various businesses, innovations, and link technology developers with end-users in the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) area. Padma Bhushan Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, Padma Shri professor Deepak Phatak, chairman of the board of governors at IIT Indore, and professor Suhas S Joshi, director of IIT Indore, all attended the ceremony.

The partnership between IIT-I, AIIMS, and other important healthcare stakeholders constitutes a significant step. A step forward in the integration of technology and healthcare. The construction of a healthcare CoE, powered by Cyber Physical Systems. This will result in advances in forecasting problems, improving patient care, and permitting proactive actions to enhance medical outcomes. This effort has the potential to revolutionize India’s healthcare system by using the power of technology and cooperation.

Two New Medical Colleges Ready for First Batches in Jammu and Kashmir

Two new medical colleges in Jammu & Kashmir, Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara and GMC Udhampur, are about to accept their first batches of MBBS students. It is a significant development for medical education in the state. With the admission of these colleges, the entire seat pool for the forthcoming academic session will expand by 200 seats. This development is a great step towards satisfying the region’s rising demand for healthcare personnel.

Increasing Medical Education Options

The J&K Public Service Commission has been heavily involved in the faculty recruitment process for these newly formed medical institutions. The commission recently announced selection lists for Assistant Professors for various departments of GMCs. Also for other empty jobs in the five existing medical schools. This illustrates the concerted efforts being made in these universities to secure enough teaching staff.

The National Medical Commission has issued a Letter of Permission (LoP) for 100 seats in each of the two new GMCs, according to Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Director Coordination New GMCs. This permission was granted after thorough examination of the campuses’ infrastructure and staff. Dr. Sharma also stated that the campuses were adequately staffed in terms of academic preparations.

Increased Seat Pool and Participation in the All-India Quota

With the addition of GMC Handwara and GMC Udhampur, the total intake capacity of Jammu and Kashmir’s seven new medical schools would be 715. Aspiring medical students will now be able to compete for almost 1300 MBBS seats across all regional medical institutions. This seat pool has the most available seats ever.

Furthermore, the Government of J&K has created provisions for 15% of MBBS seats to be distributed via the All-India Quota, which was launched in 2022. This action guarantees that students from around the country can apply for admission to major medical schools, promoting diversity and facilitating the interchange of information and experiences.

Future Seat Enhancement Plans

The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has declared that the government is actively striving to increase the number of available seats in medical institutions. This commitment to growth indicates the government’s commitment to supporting the population’s healthcare requirements and expanding possibilities for aspiring medical professionals.

The Counselling Process and the Merit List

The NEET UG Merit List  will be accessible soon on the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations website. Following the announcement of the merit list, the counselling procedure will begin, allowing qualified students to obtain places in their preferred medical institutions.

Creating New Medical Colleges

The  Scheme, which aims to improve medical education across India, approved GMC Udhampur and GMC Handwara for Jammu & Kashmir in 2020. The 2 medical colleges are now operating from temporary campuses. The plan is to build permanent facilities that fulfil the essential standards and regulations.

The MCI authorised 400 more seats for four new medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir in June 2019. These are Baramulla, Anantnag, Rajouri, and Kathua. However, approval was denied for GMC Doda owing to problems in satisfying the necessary specifications. The building of  new GMCs began in 2012, marking a key milestone in the region’s expansion of medical education possibilities.

The opening new medical schools in Jammu & Kashmir represents a significant step forward in medical education. However, It will help in meeting the demand for trained healthcare workers. As the entire seat pool expands by 200 seats, prospective MBBS students will have increased access to quality education. The government’s effort to expanding medical education demonstrates its commitment to developing a strong healthcare system in the region.
