Mansukh L. Mandaviya Announces Private Hospitals May Start Medical Colleges in 2023

The Indian government has pushed private hospitals to create medical courses in order to increase the number of medical schools and boost medical education in the nation. During a recent meeting with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, over 60 large private institutions were asked to offer medical courses. Around 20 of the 62 hospitals that participated are expected to begin courses this year.

Many of the hospitals, according to authorities, have already filed their applications, and those that pass inspection will accept students beginning with the current academic year. Breach Candy, Amrita Hospital, Medanta, Reliance Hospital, and Satya Sai were among the hospitals represented during the meeting.

Previously, private hospitals were unwilling to train students, but now many of them have consented to do so.

With specialised services at hospitals, most would start by training PG students. “However, some will launch both UG and PG courses,” stated a source close to the situation.

The hospitals’ hesitation resulted from burdensome paperwork and standards regarding land and infrastructure needs. However, the government has recently altered some of the rules in order to encourage more hospitals to offer medical courses.

The National Medical Commission (NMC), the primary medical education authority, published a draft notification last year that permitted hospital chains with prior experience running medical schools to launch additional schools elsewhere without waiting for the hospitals to become established. According to current regulations, a medical college with a 300-bed hospital can be formed only after it has been in operation for two years.

According to authorities, such a concession would allow the newly created Amrita Hospital in Faridabad to begin courses immediately, given that it already operates a well-established hospital and medical college in Kochi. The change is intended to boost the number of UG and PG seats, which have almost doubled in the previous nine years.

Medical schools have been required to use a system, such as CCTV cameras, biometric attendance, and AI, to monitor the number of patients and teachers present. The NMC has previously ordered that all medical schools install 25 CCTV cameras in critical areas and implement a biometric attendance system.

Officials believe that relaxing standards will have no influence on the quality of medical education. There have previously been claims that medical institutions merely brought in the appropriate number of patients and academic members during inspections. The government’s actions are aimed at boosting openness and ensuring that medical colleges meet the appropriate criteria.

NMC Grants Approval for 83 PG Medical Seats in 11 Specialities at Shri Venkateshwara Medical College

Tirupati: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for 83 additional postgraduate medical seats at Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC), Tirupati, bringing good news to medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh.

According to Dr. PA Chandrasekharan, Principal of the Medical College, these additional postgraduate medical seats have been added in the eleven specialty and super-specialty departments.

As a result of the NMC’s approval, the college now has 226 PG medical seats in total. Furthermore, the college has submitted proposals for seven additional seats in the Surgery Department, and if approved by the Commission, the number of PG seats will increase to 233.

Sri Venkateswara Medical College, located in Tirupati, was founded in 1960. It has 240 undergraduate and 146 postgraduate medical seats in total.

The Central Government approved 630 additional PG medical seats at 11 Andhra Pradesh medical colleges last year. The Centre’s approval came after the State Government requested an increase of 688 PG medical seats.

At the time, the Union Government approved the addition of 75 medical seats to SV Medical College in Tirupati.

According to a recent media report by The Hans India, the apex medical education regulatory body NMC has now granted the medical college permission for an additional 83 PG medical seats in 11 specialty and super specialty departments.

The NMC’s approval came after the commission’s teams inspected the college and Ruia Hospital. Following the inspection, the NMC teams were pleased with the services and educational quality.

College vice-principals Dr. Vasundhara Devi and Dr. Venkateswarlu applauded the Commission’s decision to increase the number of PG medical seats. While commenting on the matter, Dr. PA Chandrasekharan, principal of the medical college, stated that this is the first time in the college’s history that it has received permission for such a large increase in seats at one time.

Karnataka to Establish 11 New Medical Colleges through PPP Model

The state government will allocate land to private companies for the construction of colleges. The companies will put money into college construction, infrastructure, and teaching and non-teaching staff. The district hospital will be turned over to the firm for clinical practise by the government.

In 11 districts of Karnataka, eleven additional medical institutions will open up using a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

At Tumakuru, Davangere, Chitradurga, Bagalkot, Kolar, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bengaluru Rural, Vijayapura, Vijayanagara, and Ramanagaram, new medical institutions will be established.

For two medical colleges, the state government has already finished the site selection and related clearance processes. In the 2024–25 academic year, two medical colleges would be functioning in the Davanagere and Bengaluru Rural districts, according to sources.

According to Sujatha Rathod, director of the Directorate of Medical Education, “the state government has decided to start 11 new medical colleges under the PPP model in Karnataka to improve the medical infrastructure, health facilities for the rural people and give more opportunities for medical education to rural residents and poor and meritorious students.

“Site allocation and other permissions for the rural district medical colleges in Davanagere and Bengaluru have been finalised. In order to administer the institutions, we will look for stakeholders. From the 2024–2025 school year, medical colleges in these two districts will be operational.

There are currently 57 medical colleges in Karnataka, including 23 that are governed by the government. The state government announced the opening of medical colleges in a number of districts in 2014–15. Nevertheless, due to financial limitations, the construction of medical colleges in several districts could not begin. The cost of establishing and maintaining a medical institution can reach $600 crore.

With their limited resources, the Union and state governments, according to the NITI Aayog, are unable to bridge the gaps in medical education. As a result, the Aayog proposed transferring district hospitals with 750 beds to private medical colleges via a PPP model. The state government then decided to establish new medical colleges under the PPP model in 11 Karnataka districts.

The state government would provide private companies with land to build colleges on. The businesses will provide money for the infrastructure, teaching and support staff, and college buildings. The district hospital will then be turned over by the government to a private company for clinical use. Nonetheless, the State Department of Health and Family Welfare will oversee the district hospital employees.

Dental Council of India(DCI) approves 15 new MD seats at Vijayawada Dental College, boosting postgraduate education in dentistry

Vijayawada: The Dental Council of India (DCI) has granted permission for 15 additional MDS seats in five disciplines at the Government Dental College, Vijayawada, which is good news for postgraduate dentistry aspirants in Andhra Pradesh.

The Union Health Ministry (dental education) informed the GDCH principal in a letter about the approval of these 15 extra seats for the next academic year, 2023–2024.

According to TNIE, these seats include three each in the departments of orthodontics, prosthodontics, paediatric dentistry, oral medicine, and oral pathology for speciality courses like orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, prosthodontics and crown and bridge, orthodontics and dentofacial pathology, and preventive and paediatric dentistry.

Nine MDS places were formerly available at the institution, with three each in the departments of periodontology, conservative dentistry, and oral surgery starting in 2010.

According to the most recent media report by the New Indian Express, DCI approved after examining the college’s facilities back in September 2022. Following the inspection, the DCI authorities acknowledged their pleasure with the college’s facilities and approved the college for 15 MDS seats.

The head of the dental college, Dr. Kolasani Srinivasa Rao, congratulated the director of medical education (DME), Dr. Vinod Kumar, and the principal secretary of health, MT Krishna Babu, for the news.

“The DME has promised to provide equipment, such as dental chairs and machinery, on behalf of the government. We currently treat 300 outpatients per day. With the addition of 15 MDS seats, we will be able to treat 150 more patients per day,” he stated.

He also thanked members of the Dental Council, Dr. Mehboob Sheikh and Dr. Satish Kumar Reddy, for their assistance throughout the process.

More students from the state will now be able to pursue a specialisation in the two government colleges of the state rather than getting admitted to the private dental colleges, says Dr. Mehaboob Shaik, YSRC Doctors Wing zonal in-charge of Krishna, Guntur, and NTR districts, who also welcomed the approval of additional seats.

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was thanked by the president of the YSR Congress Medical Wing, Dr. Ambati Naga Radhakrishna Yadav, who also indicated that 50% of the new PG dental seats would remain open for the benefit of BC, SC, ST, and minority students’ economic and social growth.

The Lohia Institute is currently undergoing regular recruitment after around ten years.

The nurse recruitment exam was conducted on Saturday at 33 centres across the state, according to institute head Dr. Sonia Nityanand.

In total, 8300 individuals were scheduled to take the test. There were over 4,000 candidates who participated. Earlier, 92 locations around the nation hosted the recruitment exam. The test was administered by Gujarat’s Edutest Agency.

Other issues included the centres’ computers and energy. Candidates who were upset made a scene. NEET Counseling: Tough Decision Ahead as Students Must Choose Medical College in One Go for MBBS Admission

The Graduate Medical Education Regulations have been revised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) (GMER). In light of this, candidates are required to select their chosen college during the counselling process for MBBS admission.

The Graduate Medical Education Regulations have been revised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) (GMER).

Under this policy, students would only be able to select their favourite college at the initial round of counselling for MBBS admission. It is thought that this move was made in order to guarantee that every seat is taken during the three rounds of online counselling.

On the draught, opinions from numerous stakeholders have been requested. Last year, 352 BSC Nursing seats, 1280 BDS seats, and 4299 MBBS seats remained unfilled despite three rounds of online counselling. Rounds 1 and 2 are followed by the measurement-up round.

The fourth stray round, which would not be conducted online, would then be completed. Following this, complaints of process disturbances have been made.

English remains a required subject. Despite the fact that many states, including Madhya Pradesh, are encouraging medical education in Hindi, English is still required in class 12 in order to take the NEET UG exam.

Transfer in exceptional situations: Under certain conditions, a student may transfer from one government institution to another during their first year, but only from one non-government college to another non-government college.

According to the updated draught on equal NEET scores, a procedure has been put in place when multiple candidates receive the same result. According to this, the subjects with the highest scores in biology, chemistry, and physics will be used as the foundation. There will be a computer draw if this choice is also not made.

New Order by WBCERC: Private Hospitals in WB Barred from Charging Follow-up Consultation Fees for 15 Days After Primary Consultation

Kolkata: In a significant move, the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has instructed hospitals that there will be no additional consultation fee assessed for up to 15 days after the date of the initial consultation for displaying test results requested by the doctor in the outpatient department (OPD).

This occurred after the commission brought to light the unfair treatment of OPD patients in clinical settings, noting that they had previously had seven days to present the report or findings of the investigations to the consultant or treating physician.

According to the commission, if patients did not return with reports as instructed by the doctor within 7 days, they would be compelled to pay the whole consultation fee for providing test results or investigation results to the doctor as of the eighth day.

“Due to our observation that some private hospitals are now charging the whole consultation price if the patient does not return to exhibit the reports within 7 days, even though there was previously no fee for consultation of test results ordered by the doctor, we have released advice number 33. A complaint over the matter was submitted on February 27, 2023, and the committee noted that, particularly in situations involving several investigations and testing, it can take some time for tests to be carried out and results to be received.” The WBCERC’s chair and former judge, Ashim Banerjee, explained

Continuing, he said, “This period of time is quite brief. The reports are frequently inaccessible, necessitating the patient party to pay for a second session just to view the reports or investigative findings. We determined that it was acceptable to allow the patient at least 15 days to return for the consultation in light of this.”

The committee recently decided that the patient party would not be charged an additional cost if the reports or results of the tests the doctor requested were submitted within 15 days after the appointment.

However, as the WBCERC also stated in the advisory while also allowing an extension for test result consultation, this will not stop the clinical establishments from asking the patient party to show the report/results of the investigational Consultant/doctor as soon as they are available in the patient’s interest of timely treatment.
