Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) Fellowship

The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has unveiled the eligibility requirements and the intake capacity for each course offered in the first round of admissions for Fellowship and/or Certificate Courses for the academic year 2022-23. The admissions process will be carried out online, and the affiliated training centres will conduct it. In addition, MUHS has also released a list of eligible candidates with their general merit numbers, an allotment list, a roster of disqualified candidates, and the fee structure.

Both the allotment letter and the retention form are accessible online to all applicants concerned. Those who have been selected can obtain a hard copy of the allotment letter and the retention form for the first round by entering their registered mobile number and OTP. The following link can be used by the applicant to obtain a printout of the allotment letter and the retention form: https://intranet.muhs.ac.in/admission_fcc_print_allotement_letter.aspx.

The University’s criteria for allotment are based on two factors:

  1. The applicant’s Maharashtra domicile status, and their academic achievements in various degree programs.
  2. Candidates are evaluated based on the marks they have obtained in their Super Specialty Degree (400 Marks), Post Graduate Degree (300 Marks), Post Graduate Degree attempts, Post Graduate Diploma (200 Marks), Under Graduate Marks, 12th Marks, and any additional criteria such as their HSC marks and age, as per the University’s policy.
  3. If there are no Maharashtra Domicile applicants available for a particular course, only Non-Maharashtra Domicile candidates are considered based on the number of vacancies and their priority.
  4. A separate merit number is generated for each candidate based on their academic achievements in their PG, UG & 12th courses, as applicable.

For the first round, candidates who have been allotted seats and wish to retain/confirm them are required to report to the assigned training center, pay the total course fees (75% of the fees to be paid to the training center and 25% of administrative fees to be paid to the University through the online payment link https://muhs.unisuite.in), and submit the retention form and all relevant original documents within the given deadline.

Candidates who wish to retain their admission status at the respective training center must fill the “Status Retention Form” by the deadline of April 10th, 2023. Those who have been admitted to their preferred choice of course must accept the allotted admission; failure to do so will result in their exclusion from this year’s admission process.

Candidates who have received allotments other than their first priority and wish to upgrade their priority must report to the assigned training center in the first round as per the allotment letter. At this stage, they only have to pay the administrative charges to the University (25% administrative fees to be paid through the online payment link https://muhs.unisuite.in/). They must then communicate their decision not to retain the allotted seat to both the concerned training center and the University by sending an email to [email protected].

The applicant must provide payment information for a 25% administrative fee to the designated training center. If the applicant is allotted a different training center in the next round, they must attend it, or else pay the remaining 75% of the course fees to the new training center. If the applicant is not allotted a new seat in the subsequent round, they must pay the remaining 75% of the fees to the originally allotted training center.

If an applicant decides to cancel their admission, any potential refund of fees will be subject to the University’s decision and policies. Those who have already confirmed their admission may apply to cancel and receive a refund. However, the amount refunded will be reduced as per the University’s Admission Notification No. 02/2023, issued on January 19, 2023, for all courses.

The concerned Deans, Principals, or Heads of Departments of all affiliated Training Centers are instructed to send a copy of the Retention Form submitted by the applicant to the University via email at [email protected] on or before April 11, 2023. The hard copy of the form, along with the receipt for the 25% administrative fees paid online, should also be submitted.

Candidates who have graduated from Government, aided Corporation, Armed Forces, or affiliated Institutes and are obligated to fulfil their Bond Service must provide a certificate verifying completion of their obligation. The Dean, Principal, or Director of the college, institute, or affiliated training center is responsible for ensuring that the certificate complies with the policies of the Government of Maharashtra or DMER, Mumbai, as appropriate. It is their duty to verify and decide on the conformity of the Bond completion certificate.

The University does not oversee any stipend that affiliated Training Centers may offer to admitted candidates of the Fellowship/Certificate Courses. It is up to the concerned management/administration of the affiliated Training Centers to decide whether to provide a stipend. However, the affiliated Training Centers must follow consistent and transparent policies when providing stipends to admitted candidates.

Attention all concerned individuals: The University has specified the eligibility criteria for admission to certain Fellowship Courses as either a post-graduation master’s degree or postgraduate diploma qualification. It should be noted that postgraduate diploma holders are required to complete an additional year of work compared to those with a PG master’s degree. Consequently, the total duration for postgraduate diploma holders to complete the Fellowship Courses is 2 years.

This allotment is temporary in nature, and the University reserves the right to cancel it at any time. The process for paying the 25% administrative fees for Fellowship and Certificate Courses is online.

  1. To make an online payment, go to https://muhs.unisuite.in/.
  2. Click on the “Click here to pay” option under the College Fees / Receipts section.
  3. It will be sent to the applicant’s email and SMS for future reference.
  4. Once the Fees Token has been generated, it can be used to pay fees or download the receipt later on.

  1. Click on “Pay Now,” and enter the Fees Token number along with the Captcha. Click on “Search and Proceed.”
  2. Verify your contact details using OTP, carefully check all the details, accept the terms and conditions, and follow the instructions for payment.

  4. If the applicants choose to pay through NEFT/RTGS, there is a different account number for each transaction.
  5. Detailed instructions are available on the web portal, which should be read and followed carefully.
  6. If the payment is deducted but no receipt is received, it is recommended to wait for 1 or 2 hours before attempting again.
  7. The applicants will receive a receipt over email if the transaction is successful, or it will be rejected and refunded after 2 hours.
  8. The same token can be used multiple times until the payment is successful or until the token expires.
  9. The token has a fixed validity or expiry, which must be paid before it ends, and this is displayed on the summary page.

Supreme Court Rejects Petition Challenging NEET-PG Minimum Percentile Criteria for Medical Admissions

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition by the Bihar State Branch of the Indian Medical Association, which challenged the minimum percentile criteria in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to postgraduate medical courses. The Delhi High Court bench had previously upheld the regulation that requires a minimum of 50th percentile marks to clear the NEET-PG entrance exam and be eligible for PG medical course admission.

On March 27, the bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice PS Narsimha declined to consider the plea and dismissed the Special Leave Petition under Article 136 of the Constitution. The Indian Medical Association Bihar branch had filed the petition, challenging the minimum percentile requirement for NEET PG admissions, which had been upheld by the Delhi High Court. The order stated, “We are not inclined to entertain the Special Leave Petition… The Special Leave Petition is accordingly dismissed.”

It had earlier been reported that three doctors had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Delhi HC seeking admission into postgraduate courses. They had challenged the Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018 (as amended on 05.04.2018) and its requirement for minimum marks of 50th percentile as a mandatory requirement for the general category and 40th percentile for the reserved category for admission to postgraduate courses. They had claimed that the requirement was arbitrary, unjustified and contrary to Article 14, Article 19 (1) (g) and Article 21 of the Constitution of India.

The petitioners contended that the percentile system prescribed under Regulation 9(3) of the amended Regulation was flawed. They argued that this system had resulted in a large number of seats remaining vacant despite the availability of competent and willing candidates.

During the case’s consideration, the Delhi High Court bench had expressed the view that the National Medical Commission (NMC), formerly known as the Medical Council of India (MCI), has the power to ensure that the standards of medical education in India are of the highest level.

Last year, the Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad-led bench of the High Court dismissed the PIL and remarked that the lowering of medical education standards could have disastrous consequences on society. They also noted that the practice of medicine involves matters of life and death, and it would be unacceptable for the court to interfere with the standards that the governing authority had set diligently and with due consideration.

The High Court bench, led by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, had stated last year that it was not within their power to order the authorities to fill seats in medical colleges, particularly if the applicants had not met the minimum percentile requirements. They further emphasized that quality in medical education was critical, given the potential risks to human life, and thus, there could be no compromise on this issue. The Indian Medical Association Bihar branch challenged this order in the Supreme Court, but the top court has declined to consider the plea.

Defence Quota in NEET 2023 | MBBS Admission : Kendriya Sianik Board

In India, a certain percentage of seats in medical colleges are reserved for candidates who belong to specific categories, including those who have served or are currently serving in the defense services. This reservation is known as the “Defence Quota” or “Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) Quota.”

Defence Quota in NEET 2024

The Defence Quota is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses in various medical colleges across India. The percentage of seats reserved under this quota varies from state to state and can range from 1% to 5% of the total seats available.

To be eligible for the Defence Quota, candidates must fulfill certain criteria, such as having served in the Indian Armed Forces, being a spouse or child of a serving or retired defense personnel, or being a dependent of a defense personnel who died in service.

Best MBBS Counsellor

The admission process under the Defence Quota is usually conducted separately from the general admission process, and candidates must apply through the designated authorities or online portals. They must also fulfill the eligibility criteria and submit relevant documents to prove their eligibility.

Why Choose Bodmas Medical

It is important to note that the Defence Quota is only applicable to Indian citizens and not to foreign nationals or non-resident Indians.

Defence Quota in NEET 2023

The Ministry of Defence has reserved some seats exclusively for the children of defence personnel and officers based on a priority list. The article focuses on MBBS and BDS admissions for the Defence Quota seats in 2023, where there are only 65,000 seats available for the more than 16 lakh medical aspirants who appear for the All India NEET Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency. This means that the competition for these seats is very high. However, the Government of India, Ministry of Defence has provided ample opportunities for the dependents of defence personnel and ex-servicemen by reserving some seats for them.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, allocates seats for admission to MBBS and BDS in various states. A limited number of these seats are available through the Kendriya Sainik Board(KSB) for widows and dependents of various categories of defence personnel. The admission order of priority for these seats through NEET 2023 is as follows:

  1. Widows and children of defence personnel who were killed in action.
  2. Children of defence personnel who were disabled in action and boarded out from service.
  3. Widows and children of defence personnel who died while in service with death attributable to military service.
  4. Children of defence personnel who were disabled in service and boarded out with disability attributable to military service.
  5. Children of ex-servicemen and serving personnel who are recipients of Gallantry Awards, including Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Vir Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, Sena, Nau Sena, and Vayu Sena Medal.
  6. Children of ex-servicemen.
  7. Wives of:
  1. i) Defence personnel who were disabled in action and boarded out from service.
  2. ii) Defence personnel who were disabled in action and boarded out with disability attributable to military service.

Gujarat Medical Council Seeks Clarification from NMC Regarding MBBS Graduates from Philippines

The Gujarat Medical Council has reached out to the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding the issue of MBBS graduates from the Philippines who have not received their permanent registration numbers. The graduates belong to the December 2022 batch and have complained that they have not received their registration numbers even though they studied in the same country and the same colleges as the June 2022 batch of students. In the case of the June batch, they were issued their permanent registration numbers by NMC after they completed their MBBS degree in the Philippines and returned to India.

According to sources, MBBS graduates from the Philippines before November 18, 2021, are not required to complete the one-year internship after returning to India. However, this rule does not apply to students who returned in 2022.

The National Medical Commission had notified the National Medical Commission (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations, 2021, to seal the fate of foreign medical education courses and end speculations surrounding them. The regulations came into effect on November 18, 2021, and are applicable to all admissions after that date.

The NMC FMGL rules 2021 mandate several conditions that FMGs need to fulfill, including completing a supervised internship in India for a minimum of twelve months.

The MBBS graduates from the Philippines have made multiple complaints to the Gujarat Medical Council, pointing out that without permanent registration numbers, they cannot register themselves for postgraduate exams. The graduates have demanded an immediate solution, calling the disparity in NMC rules unfair.

Sources at the Gujarat Medical Council have informed the media that they have sought clarification from the Commission regarding the disparity in the rules. After receiving a response from the Commission, the Council will issue permanent registration numbers to the foreign medical graduates.

The issue highlights the importance of standardization in medical education and the need for clear and transparent regulations to govern foreign medical education courses. The NMC and other medical education regulatory bodies must work towards creating a fair and transparent system that ensures that all MBBS graduates, irrespective of their country of study, are treated equally and have access to the same opportunities.
