Delhi High Court Orders Rescheduling of CLAT 2024 Counselling Dates

Delhi High Court Orders Rescheduling of CLAT 2024 Counselling Dates

The Delhi High Court has issued a directive concerning the CLAT 2024 counselling process, following an order to the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) to revise the merit list initially published on December 7, 2024.

This ruling comes after CNLU agreed to amend the results of the CLAT 2025 undergraduate exam due to errors identified in two questions. The court’s decision follows a petition filed by 17-year-old Aditya Singh, who contested the final answer key issued by CNLU on December 8, 2023.

The court specifically found errors in question numbers 14 and 100 from Set A of the exam paper. Justice Jyoti Singh, who delivered the judgment, noted that the mistakes were “demonstrably clear” and should not be ignored, as it would be unfair to the candidates. The court ruled that option ‘C’ was the correct answer for question 14 in Set A, a position that was also supported by an Expert Committee. Consequently, candidates who had selected option ‘C’ for question 14 will benefit from this correction.

In light of this ruling, the Delhi High Court has directed CNLU to revisit the CLAT 2024 merit list. As a result, the counselling process will be delayed, and the release of the first admission list, originally scheduled for December 26, will be postponed.

CNLU has assured that it will ensure transparency and fairness throughout the revised counselling process. A new schedule will be announced after the Supreme Court’s appeal process and any potential relief granted. All important updates will be shared on the official CNLU website.

Delhi High Court Orders Revision of CLAT 2025 Results Due to Errors in Two Questions

New Delhi, December 23, 2024: The Delhi High Court has directed the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) to revise the results of the CLAT 2025 undergraduate exam after identifying errors in two questions. The court’s decision comes in response to a petition filed by 17-year-old Aditya Singh, who challenged the final answer key released by the CNLU on December 8, 2023.

In its ruling, the court found errors in question numbers 14 and 100 from Set A of the exam paper. Justice Jyoti Singh, while delivering the judgment, stated that the errors were “demonstrably clear” and that ignoring them would be unjust to the candidates.

The court specifically upheld option ‘C’ as the correct answer for question 14 in Set A, a decision that was also supported by the Expert Committee. As a result, the court has ordered that the benefit of this correction be extended to all candidates who had selected option ‘C’ for question 14.

In a significant move, the court instructed the CNLU to revise the results accordingly and ensure that the affected candidates are given the necessary benefit. This ruling is expected to impact the overall rankings and the ongoing counselling process for admission to the 5-year LLB course at National Law Universities.

The decision is seen as a crucial step in maintaining the fairness and integrity of the CLAT exam process, which is the gateway for admission to prestigious law schools across India. The CNLU is now expected to make the necessary adjustments to the results and announce the revised scores in due course.

Candidates who had raised concerns over the answer key are likely to benefit from the court’s intervention, which has raised important questions about the transparency of the exam process.

CLAT 2025 General Category NLU-Wise Expected Cutoff

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is among the most popular entrance examinations for those looking to pursue a career in law in India. The results for CLAT 2025 were released on December 7, 2024, and candidates are now eagerly preparing for the counselling process. An essential aspect of the counselling journey is understanding the expected cutoffs for each National Law University (NLU), as these cutoffs are critical in determining which institutions candidates are likely to be eligible for admission to. Bodmas Education will provide an NLU-wise expected cutoff for the General Category for CLAT 2025, helping aspirants strategize their counselling choices. Please note that these cutoffs are predicted ranges based on historical data, expert analysis, and trends. The actual cutoffs may fluctuate depending on various factors, such as the difficulty level of the exam, number of applicants, and score distribution. CLAT 2025 Cutoffs
  1. Exam Difficulty Level: If the CLAT exam in 2025 is perceived to be more challenging than previous years, the cutoff may lower as fewer candidates are able to score highly.
  2. Number of Applicants: The number of students who appear for the exam and their performance in the test will significantly affect the cutoffs. A large number of high scorers could push the cutoffs higher.
  3. Score Distribution: The variation in the distribution of marks across candidates is another important factor. If many candidates score similarly, the competition becomes tougher, thus impacting the cutoffs.
  4. Changes in Seat Availability: Any increase or decrease in the number of seats available in a particular NLU could also impact the cutoff scores for that institution.

 Understanding the Expected Cutoffs
The cutoffs for top-tier NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad are typically higher, with expected ranges between 97-100 for NLSIU Bengaluru and 158-165 for NALSAR Hyderabad. These institutions are known for their excellent infrastructure, faculty, and placement opportunities, making them the most competitive options. As we move down the list, the expected cutoffs gradually lower, but still represent prestigious law schools that offer strong academic programs and good career prospects. For example, GNLU Gandhinagar and NLU Bhopal have cutoffs in the range of 429-440 and 400-430, respectively. In the mid-tier NLUs such as MNLU Mumbai, RMLNLU Lucknow, and HNLU Raipur, candidates can expect cutoffs ranging from 547 to 730. These NLUs offer a solid academic environment and reasonable placement records, making them a good option for students with slightly lower scores. At the lower end, some of the newer or less competitive NLUs like NLU Agartala and CNLU Patna have expected cutoffs ranging from 1080 to 1795, reflecting the reduced competition in comparison to top-tier institutions. Strategic Planning for Counselling Based on the CLAT 2025 General Category expected cutoff, candidates can adopt the following strategies for the counselling process:
  1. Know Your Score: First, assess your CLAT 2025 score and determine where you stand in comparison to the cutoff ranges. This will help you identify the most suitable NLUs for your counselling choices.
  2. Prioritize Top NLUs: If your score is close to or above the cutoff for institutions like NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, or WBNUJS Kolkata, prioritize these universities in your counselling choices.
  3. Explore Mid-Tier Options: For scores that fall within the range of mid-tier institutions like MNLU Mumbai or HNLU Raipur, consider a balanced approach by selecting both top-tier and mid-tier NLUs to increase your chances of securing admission.
  4. Backup Options: Even if your score falls towards the lower end of the cutoff spectrum, consider applying to newer or less competitive NLUs like NLU Agartala or DSNLU Vishakhapattanam. These institutions might offer better prospects in the future as they grow in stature.
  5. Consider Location and Specialization: In addition to the cutoff, consider factors like the location, faculty, specialization areas, and campus culture of the NLU. Your personal preferences can also play a crucial role in the decision-making process.
The CLAT 2025 General Category NLU-Wise Expected Cutoff provides an essential guide for law aspirants who are preparing for the next step in their educational journey. While the cutoff ranges presented here are predictions, they can help you make informed decisions during the counselling process.
