Established in 1999, Government Medical College Ernakulam, (GMCE), Ernakulam is one among the premier medical institutions in the Kerala state. The college was governed by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education established by the Government of Kerala. Later in December 17, 2013 the Government has taken over the institution and now it is governed and managed by Government of Kerala. The admissions and functioning of the college is according to the rules and regulations formulated by the Government of Kerala.
It is affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by Govt. of India and the National Medical Commission (NMC). It has an annual intake of 110 seats in MBBS.
Sophisticated facilities of world class standards which provides treatment for all most all medical conditions with renowned Doctors specialized in all major Disciplines and low cost packages for all treatments makes the college a unique from others. The College meets all the requirements of the MCI for training medical interns and has got complete access to all the clinical and super specialty departments of the Medical College Hospital.
The hospital is equipped with 700 beds. Of these, 500 are in the general category and meet the requirements stipulated by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the teaching departments. The remaining beds belong to the private, semiprivate and the unitary wards of the specialty and super-specialty departments.
