The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted Kilpauk Medical College permission to offer the five-year MBBS programme, which is good news for Tamil Nadu’s medical aspirants. This choice was made after carefully examining the medical college and taking into account their request for an extension of approval. This authorization allows Kilpauk Medical College to accept applicants for 150 MBBS seats.
A notable breakthrough is the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) approval of Chennai’s Kilpauk Medical College to provide the MBBS programme for five years. This clearance results from examining the medical college’s assessment report and taking into account their request for an extension. Tamil Nadu’s medical aspirants now have more opportunities thanks to the NMC’s approval of 150 MBBS seats.
Overview of Kilpauk Medical College
The prestigious Kilpauk Medical College, which was established in 1960, is a part of Chennai’s Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The college was initially approved for 100 MBBS seats, but later received approval to admit 150 MBBS students.
Prior Approval and Recent Extension by NMC
The NMC approved 150 MBBS seats at Government Kilpauk Medical College earlier this month. According to reports, the approval was only given for a year. This meant that in order to admit MBBS students the next year, the college had to reapply for NMC permission.
The NMC has reportedly extended approval for the MBBS course at Kilpauk Medical College for a term of five years, according to a recent story by The New Indian Express. “The recognition being granted shall be valid for a maximum period of five years from the date of issue, after which it shall have to be renewed,” the NMC wrote in a message to the college.
Quick approval as well as the assessment report
The college authorities expressed their gratitude to the NMC for responding quickly and approving the extension of time. According to a representative of Kilpauk Medical College, their request to increase the approval’s duration from one year to five years was instantly accepted after the assessment report was taken into account.
Extending Approval to Additional Medical Schools
A five-year extension for the MBBS programmes at Dharmapuri Medical College and Stanley Government Medical College Hospital was also given by the NMC, in addition to Kilpauk Medical College. The approval for Tiruchy Medical College, however, is still waiting.
Dates for counselling and the admissions process
The Union Health Ministry’s statement announcing the dates for counselling is anxiously anticipated by the state. This year, the Ministry has suggested concurrent counselling for the MBBS and BDS programmes, but there won’t be a unified counselling procedure.
According to Dr. R. Muthuselvan, the selection committee’s secretary, 4,000 students registered for the MBBS and BDS programmes online on the first day of the application sale. This registration lasted until the evening. Offline counselling will be a part of the counselling procedure for the 7.5% reservation for children in government schools and special quota seats. General quota seats will be subject to online counselling.
Tamil Nadu’s medical aspirants can now breathe a sigh of relief as Kilpauk Medical College received approval from the National Medical Commission for a five-year period. This choice guarantees stability and continuity in the college’s MBBS programme and gives them the opportunity to influence the direction of medical education in the area in the future.
