The Maharashtra Cabinet recently approved the establishment of nine new government medical colleges in the state, which is good news for the state’s medical aspirants. The number of options for medical education and healthcare professionals in the area will increase thanks to the 100 MBBS seats each of these medical colleges will have.

Cabinet of Maharashtra Approval
Under the direction of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved the expenditure of Rs. 4365.72 crores for the construction of new government medical colleges and 430-bed hospitals in nine districts around the state. Deputy Chief Minister, cabinet members, and other representatives from the healthcare and education sectors were present during the meeting.
The capacity for intake by districts
In the following districts: Palghar, Thane (Ambernath), Jalna, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Wardha, Bhandara, and Gadchiroli, the new medical colleges will be built. The availability of MBBS seats in Maharashtra would be considerably impacted by each college’s admission capacity of 100 candidates.
Maharashtra’s current medical colleges
Maharashtra already has 23 government medical colleges with a combined admission capacity of 3,750 students prior to the approval of these new medical colleges. More Seats and Medical Schools
The number of medical colleges and seats in India has significantly increased over time. Particularly, the number of medical colleges has increased by 71%, going from 387 in 2014 to 660 today. The number of MBBS seats has increased by 97%, from 51,348 in 2014 to 101,043 in 2018. Notably, of the total number of MBBS seats, 52,778 are offered by Government Medical Colleges (GMCs), while 48,265 are offered by Private Medical Colleges.
Government Efforts to Increase the Number of Doctors
