NRI Quota in NLUs: Reservation, Seat Allocation & NRI Fee Structure
NRI Quota in NLU: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 is a crucial entry point for aspiring law students to gain admission into some of India’s top National Law Universities (NLUs). The exam is fiercely competitive, with around 20 students vying for every seat in the 5-year LLB programmes offered by these prestigious institutions. However, for Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Foreign Nationals (FN), and OCI/PIO cardholders, the CLAT 2025 also offers a special NRI quota for admission.
NRI and FN Seat Reservation for CLAT 2025
The CLAT NRI quota is outlined in the admission brochures of each participating university, which can be found on the Consortium of NLUs official website: consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The most common reservation categories are SC, ST, OBC, and EWS, but several universities also allocate a certain number of seats for NRI, NRI-sponsored, Foreign Nationals (FN), and OCI/PIO cardholders.
As per the current guidelines for CLAT 2025, approximately 257 seats across various 24 NLUs and one private law university are reserved for NRI/NRI-sponsored/OCI/FN candidates. The details of these reserved seats for each university are listed below:

NRI Admission Process for CLAT 2025
Admission to the NRI/NRI-Sponsored/FN quota in these universities is based on the CLAT 2025 score. However, NRI candidates must apply separately to each university for admission under this quota, as the process is not part of the centralised CLAT counselling. After the test, each participating university will release its own merit list for NRI admissions on their respective websites.
Once the merit list is published, selected candidates will be required to undergo document verification and pay the prescribed fees. In case any NRI seats remain vacant, they will be converted into general category seats and filled accordingly.
