Due to claims of misconduct, the Medical College Admission Process in Puducherry has lately come under investigation. The AIADMK, a member of the ruling NDA, has petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the admissions process. It will help in promoting openness and impartiality. Concerns were expressed in a memorandum filed by former MLA Vaiyapuri Manikandan. The concerning corruption in the education sector and the exploitation of the Puducherry government’s regional reservation policy. These flaws have left the residents of Puducherry with no way to lodge concerns and have harmed their prospects of obtaining medical admittance.
The AIADMK, a Puducherry-based political party and member of the ruling NDA, has expressed concern about misconduct in the medical admissions procedure. They have requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to resolve the alleged corruption and guarantee a transparent and fair admissions procedure.
Allegations of Medical College Admission Corruption
In his memorandum to the Prime Minister, former MLA Vaiyapuri Manikandan highlighted the endemic corruption in Puducherry’s education system. He accused officials and ruling authorities of promoting corruption and making it harder for citizens to express their concerns. These fraudulent practises have had a particularly negative impact on the admissions process for medical schools.
Misapplication of Regional Reservation Policy
One of the primary issues addressed in the memorandum is the abuse of the Puducherry government’s regional reserve policy. Puducherry is the only state in the country that gives students from the outer territories of Karaikal, Yanam, and Mahe a 25% reservation. However, it has been uncovered that numerous students got forged dual residency credentials in order to benefit from this reservation arrangement. This shows a harsher truth: the overpriced selling of medical seats to students from other states.
Self-Financing Medical Colleges Are Exempt
According to the agreement, the Puducherry government exempts self-financing medical institutions from the legal obligation of reserving 50% of medical seats for government distribution. This loophole has created a chance for ticket sales, sustaining the admissions corruption.
Inadequate Transparency in the Medical College Admission Process
The CENTAC, which is in charge of medical college admissions in Puducherry, has also been accused of misconduct. According to Manikandan, CENTAC personnel conspired with those in authority to engage in corrupt practises. The latest announcement for medical admissions demonstrates the lack of openness in the admissions process. It failed to disclose information on the number of available seats in each institution under the government quota and the cost structure. This lack of openness casts doubt on the admissions process’s impartiality.
Urgent Need for a Thorough Investigation.
Given the high quantities of money involved and the possibility for money laundering, it is critical to conduct a thorough investigation into the issue of corruption in medical admissions in Puducherry. The AIADMK has requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervene immediately. It will guarantee that the admission process is transparent and equitable.
The charges of negligence and corruption in the Puducherry medical college admissions process are deeply concerning. The AIADMK’s appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasises the urgent need for involvement. It is to protect the interests of prospective medical students while also restoring openness and justice in the admission process.
