In order to transform divisional and district level hospitals into medical schools, the state government of Uttar Pradesh in India is continuing its one-district-one-medical-college initiative. 14 new medical colleges would be built as part of Phase III, according to government plans, which will be located in the districts of Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Sultanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, Auraiya, Sonebhadra, Lucknow, Bulandshahr, Gonda, Bijnor, Chandauli, and Lakhimpur Khiri.

According to a press release from the state administration, 60% of the goal for building work has been reached. Five hospitals were upgraded in Phase I, and 13 hospitals were upgraded in Phase II, with construction nearly finished. Phase III will expand the campaign to 14 additional medical schools.

In order to run MBBS courses this year, the Medical Education Department will request for recognition of the 14 improved facilities. The Maa Vindhyavasini Autonomous State Medical College in Mirzapur, the Maharishi Devraha Baba Government Medical College in Deoria, the Autonomous State Medical College in Hardoi, the Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College in Siddharthnagar, and the Veerangana Avantibai Medical College are a few of the hospitals getting upgrades.

In addition to the new medical colleges being constructed, the Medical Education Department has received the keys to the upgraded Lodhi Autonomous State Medical College in Etah and Government Medical College in Pratapgarh.

With limited access to healthcare in rural areas, this programme attempts to improve healthcare services throughout the state. By converting these hospitals into medical schools, the government wants to improve the state’s medical infrastructure and alleviate the region’s physician shortage.

The one-district-one-medical-college initiative of the state government is a large undertaking that has achieved remarkable headway so far. The inclusion of 14 additional medical colleges in Phase III would significantly enhance Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare infrastructure and will undoubtedly improve the health and wellbeing of the state’s citizens.
