The IIT Indore’s Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Space Engineering (DAASE) has recently introduced a new program, namely the BTech in Space Science and Engineering, which commenced on March 14, 2023. The admission process for the program is set to begin in July 2023, with a seat intake of 20 students per batch. Aspiring candidates who wish to enroll in this program must appear for and obtain a valid score in the JEE Advanced 2023 examination, which is considered one of the most challenging entrance exams for engineering courses and the sole gateway to gaining admission to IITs.

Space engineering falls under the umbrella of aerospace engineering. Various JoSAA participating colleges, including IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIEST Shibpur, and Punjab Engineering College, offer aerospace engineering programs. In 2022, the Aerospace Engineering department at IIT Bombay had 76 students placed, while in 2021 and 2020, 54 and 71 students were placed, respectively. Aerospace companies such as ISRO, Airbus, Boeing, Hyundai Mobis, Airnetz Aviation, and Bharat Dynamics are among those operating in this field.
