Launch of two MTech Programmes at IIT Kanpur; GATE scores required for entrance

The Department of Aerospace Engineering will host the interdisciplinary MTech programme in unmanned aerial systems engineering, which will demand learners to earn 150 credits over 2 years of curriculum and a thesis.

Unmanned aerial systems engineering and cognitive systems engineering are two new MTech programmes that were just introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. Through the official IIT Kanpur website, iitk.ac.in, interested candidates can submit an application for these programmes (starting next year).

Applicants must keep in mind that admission to these two programmes will be based on their GATE score.

IIT Kanpur became the very first university in India to provide a specialised MTech study in aerial drones with the introduction of Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering. Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering will give learners the abilities and information they need to succeed as pioneers in the drone industry, which has many uses in industries like agriculture, commerce, and defence. With a targeted interdisciplinary partnership across multiple institutions of higher learning, training facilities, and skill training bodies, this programme is in line with MeitY’s national initiative on training and education for drone technology.

Additionally, the programme on Cognitive Systems is also being launched as the first of its kind in the country. This initiative “will help students acquire a deeper understanding of the human mind and brain and apply cognitive principles in domains such as human-computer interaction, education, and neuroscience.” “This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between basic research and applications, and we are confident that our students will be well-prepared to meet the challenges of the industry and society,” Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, stated.

The newly established Department of Cognitive Science will host it. IIT Kanpur was the very first IIT to construct a full-fledged Cognitive Science department.

Candidates should be aware, however, that these newly approved initiatives will be effective beginning with the next academic year.
