In Lucknow, the Medical Education and Training Department of Uttar Pradesh has issued an order recognizing the services provided by resident doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic as a part of their compulsory government service bond. The decision came after senior residents from the 2018 batch wrote to the Director General of State Medical Education and Training Department regarding the delay in their employment under the compulsory government service bond.

The doctors from the 2018 batch submitted a joint application to the Director General of State Medical Education department, stating that they faced employment delays by the State government under the compulsory government service bond after completing their postgraduate course in 2021. However, during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they were employed from the institute level itself.

The doctors pointed out that there were no guidelines issued at that time specifying that the services they provided during that period would be considered part of the Compulsory Government Service Bond. As a result, they wrote to the State’s Medical Education Department and urged them to incorporate the services they rendered at the institute in 2021 under the compulsory government service bond.

After being made aware of the situation, the Director General of UP Medical Education and Training Department promptly issued an office order to provide relief to the affected doctors. In recognition of the doctors’ service during the pandemic, the department announced that the service period of NEET PG 2018 batch candidates who were employed at the institute, medical college, or medical university level in 2021 would be included in the compulsory government service bond.

Director General Shruti Singh’s order stated that the order should be followed accordingly. Additionally, the relevant order was sent to several authorities, including the Principal Secretary of the UP Medical Education Section, the Directors of SGGI Lucknow, Dr. RMLIMS Lucknow, State Institute of Medical Sciences, and the Principals of all Government and autonomous medical colleges in the State.
