Governmentof West Bengal decided to start a new medical college with a capacity of 100 MBBS student, in a strategic location of Kamarhati, which is the gateway of North Kolkata. In 2010, the Governmentof West Bengal issued a memo in which a sanction was accorded to set up a medical college, with an intake of 100 MBBS students, in the campus of the Sagore Dutta State General Hospital.After the inspection by MCI team in 2011, Letter of PermissionwasreceivedbytheAuthorityofCollegeofMedicine& SagoreDuttaHospitalon 30th June, 2011. Classes for the first year MBBS course started on 1stAugust 2011. ThecollegehasreceivedrecognitionforMBBSdegreeonFebruary,2016. TheDMLTandDRDcoursesstartedintheAcademicYear2014,DPT,DOPT,DOTTand ECGcoursesstartedfrom2015andDCCTcoursewasstartedfrom2016. GNMNursingschoolwasstartedin theyear2017with 60intakeofstudentsperyearwhich was increased to 100 in the year 2021.

It provides medical education, research and health care to the people of Bankura district, neighbouring districts and even the nearby states.The buildings of the institution are mainly situated at the Kamarhati of Kolkata town. Medical Education and Research – Different UG & PG courses like- BSc- Nursing (100 Seats), MBBS (125 Seats), MS/MD (35 Seats) in different disciplines are conducted under West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
