KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test)

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is a state-level entrance exam conducted annually by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for admission to undergraduate courses in various disciplines like engineering, medical, dental, pharmacy, agriculture, veterinary science, and more. It is one of the most significant entrance exams for students aspiring to study in colleges in Karnataka. It is primarily for students who have completed their 12th grade and wish to continue their education in one of these programs.

KCET Application Process:

The application process for KCET is entirely online, and candidates must follow these steps:

1.    Registration:

Candidates need to create an account on the official Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) website.

During registration, candidates must provide their basic details like name, email, phone number, and other necessary information.

2.    Application Form:

After registration, candidates must fill out the application form, which includes: 

Personal Information (Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc.)

 Educational Qualification (12th-grade marks, subjects, school details)

Course Preferences (Engineering, Medical, Agriculture, etc.)

3.    Document Upload:

 Candidates must upload scanned copies of the following documents: 

Photograph: A recent passport-sized color photo.

 Signature: Scanned signature in a specified size.

12th-grade Marksheets: For verification of academic qualification.

Category Certificate (if applicable): For candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC).

 Other Documents: Any other documents requested by the KEA (e.g., domicile certificate).

4.    Fee Payment:

The application fee varies based on the candidate's category: 

General category: Approximately ₹500

SC/ST/OBC category: Approximately ₹250

The fee can be paid through online methods such as credit card, debit card, or net banking.

5.    Final Submission:

After filling the application form and uploading all documents, candidates need to submit the form.

Candidates are advised to keep a printed copy of the application for future reference.

KCET Admit Card:

Once the application is processed and verified, the admit card is released by KEA on the official website. The admit card contains essential information about the candidate and the exam:

    Candidate’s Details: Name, photograph, roll number, and other personal information.

    Exam Details: Exam center, date, and time.

    Instructions: Important guidelines to follow on the exam day.

Important Instructions:

    Candidates must download and print the admit card from the official KEA website.

    On the exam day, candidates must bring a printed copy of the admit card along with a valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID, etc.).

    Without the admit card and ID proof, entry to the exam center will not be allowed.

KCET Results:

KCET Results are usually declared 2-3 weeks after the exam date on the official KEA website.

 The results will display: 

 Marks obtained by the candidate in each subject.

 Overall score and rank based on performance in the exam.

 The results are available in the form of a scorecard, which candidates can download and print.

Result Calculation:

    KCET is scored out of 180 marks for each subject (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology).

    The rank is calculated based on the candidate’s score and category (General, SC/ST, etc.).

KCET Counselling and Seat Allocation

The counselling process for KCET takes place after the exam results are declared. Based on the ranks secured by candidates, the following steps are involved:

1. Document Verification:

Candidates who qualify the exam need to report for document verification at the designated counseling center.

Documents required for verification include: 

KCET admit card

KCET scorecard

12th-grade marksheet

Caste certificate (for reserved categories)

Domicile certificate (if applicable)

Other supporting documents as per the requirements.

2. Choice Filling:

o    After document verification, candidates can fill their college and course preferences through the counseling portal.

o    Students can choose their preferred courses (e.g., Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy) and preferred colleges in Karnataka.

3.    Seat Allotment:

o    Based on the ranks, available seats, and preferences filled, seats are allotted in various government and private colleges in Karnataka.

o    The seat allotment process occurs in multiple rounds depending on the availability of seats after each round of counseling.

o    First round allotment is based on the initial seat matrix and the availability of courses in colleges.

4.    Fees Payment and Seat Confirmation:

o    After receiving the seat allotment, candidates must pay the prescribed fees to confirm their admission.

o    The fee payment can be made online via net banking or through challans in banks, depending on the college.

o    Once the payment is made, candidates must report to the college to complete the admission process and submit original documents.
