Healthcare Revolution of Madhya Pradesh: New Medical Colleges and Boon Projects

Madhya Pradesh is already on its way to achieving this goal, and the recent opening of two new government medical colleges, in Sheopur and Singrauli, will significantly contribute to this objective. From having only five government medical colleges before 2003, Madhya Pradesh has indeed travelled a long way. 15 government and 13 private medical colleges are now a reality in the state, and with Sheopur and Singrauli added to the mix, it increases the number of seats where students can be trained as doctors. Expressing optimism in launching the project, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said the project will be extended to 26 government medical colleges in the next few years. Between 2014 and 2019, the number of medical colleges doubled from 387 to 780, and undergraduate seats doubled from 56,000 to 1.7 lakh. The government has pledged to add a further 75,000 places in the next five years, creating even more openings for young people wanting to become doctors. This will allow Madhya Pradesh to keep more of its local talent in the state, shortening the healthcare deficit between its urban and rural regions.
