The National Medical Commission (NMC) and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) have now issued the seat matrix for NEET UG/PG Counselling 2025-26, but another crucial issue has shaken the medical education fraternity – nine medical colleges from India are not participating in this year's counselling process as they have been debarred for major violations and non-compliance from the NMC.
9 Medical Colleges See “Zero Seats” in Official Matrix – Banned from Counselling 2025
The newly outlined seat matrix establishes that only 775 colleges will participate in the 2025-26 session; previously, there were 780 colleges. Upon investigation, it became apparent that 9 institutions were marked '0 seats' - they are unable to admit students this year. Thus, these colleges fail to participate in NEET UG or PG counselling due to action being taken against them by the regulatory authorities.

Reason Behind the Action – Corruption & Non-Compliance
According to sources, these institutions are on the radar of CBI and other regulators with allegations of corruption and bribery, and not following NMC guidelines. The NMC has taken a firm step and not allotted even a single seat for this academic year - both for UG (MBBS) and PG (MD/ MS).
Many of these institutions did not have adequate faculty strength, infrastructure, clinical exposure, or did not follow the NMC's guidelines. This year, the commission, will be taking a zero-tolerance attitude towards these infractions.
NEET UG 2025 Seat Matrix Highlights
• Total Colleges Participating NEET (2025): 775
• Total seats available for MBBS: approximately 1,15,900
• Number of Debarred Colleges: 9
• Colleges not available that were in last year's matrix: 5 debarred colleges
It is worth noting that in the matrix published, some of the colleges had "+50" or "+100" seats. This is likely pending approvals. MCC will release a new final consolidated list for the final allocated seats once this is confirmed.
Hamdard Institute's admission denial: Surprise
The denial of admission to Delhi-based Jamia Hamdard has surprised many. The college has a good reputation and academic history, but now the matrix shows no seats for 2025-26. This is possibly an indication of some irregularity or failure during internal inspection, which is still under investigation.
