• NEET UG 2026 result has been declared by NTA on 16th July 2026.
• NEW: The Government of Assam has notified the Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam (Regulations of Admission into 1st year MBBS or BDS Courses) (Amendment) Rules, 2026 vide Assam Gazette Extraordinary Notification No. MER.290222/548 dated 5th August 2026, effective from the 2026 academic session. This amendment revises the seat-wise reservation matrix and introduces a new Three-Generation Link Certificate requirement (see below).
• OFFICIAL SCHEDULE RELEASED: The Director of Medical Education, Assam has issued the Educational Notice (No. DME/UG/2026/770111/16, dated 12 August 2026) announcing the 1st Round Online Counselling schedule for admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS courses in Government Medical & Dental Colleges of Assam, Session 2026. Online registration is open from 13 August 2026 to 15 August 2026 (11:55 PM).
• Students can apply for special reservation categories like Freedom Fighter, Defence, Sports, and Char areas.
• All eligible candidates under General, PwD, and Reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC-MOBC(NCL)/TGL/Ex-TGL) and Special categories (Freedom Fighters/Moran/Motok/Tai Ahom/Chutia/Koch Rajbongshi/Martyr of Assam Movement/Extremist Violence/Ex-Servicemen & Serving Defence Personnel/Sports/Orphan) shall register and fill choices online. News 1: Assam NEET UG 2026 – Official Round 1 Counselling Schedule Released

The Director of Medical Education, Assam has officially released the 1st Round Online Counselling schedule for admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS courses in the Government Medical & Dental Colleges of Assam, Session 2026, vide Educational Notice No. DME/UG/2026/770111/16, dated 12th August 2026. This is for information of all candidates who have qualified in NEET UG 2026 (conducted by NTA) and are eligible as per “The Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam (Regulation of Admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS Courses) Rules 2017 (Amended upto 2026)” for admission into 1st year MBBS/BDS courses in the Government Medical and Dental Colleges of Assam for Session 2026, under State quota seats.

Registration is available at www.dme.assam.gov.in. This round covers state quota MBBS/BDS seats, and candidates from all categories (General, Reserved, PWD, and Special categories) must participate in this online process – no offline counselling will be held separately for these seats.

News 2: NEET UG 2026 Result Declared – Assam Round 1 Registration Now Open

The NEET UG 2026 result was declared by the NTA on 16th July 2026. Following this, DME Assam has released the state merit list schedule and opened Round 1 online registration from 13 August 2026 to 15 August 2026 (11:55 PM) for Assam NEET UG 2026 counselling, allowing eligible candidates to participate in the state quota counselling process.

Those applying under special categories like Freedom Fighters, Martyr of Assam Movement, Ex-servicemen, and Sports Quota should keep all Annexures and supporting documents ready as per the MBBS/BDS Admission Rule 2017 (Amendment 2026) while registering online, as no separate offline counselling will be conducted for these seats.

Assam NEET UG Counselling 2026 – Official Round 1 Dates

Note: The above Round 1 schedule is officially confirmed as per DME Assam Educational Notice No. DME/UG/2026/770111/16, dated 12th August 2026. Round 2, Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy Round dates for 2026 have not yet been announced and will be updated as soon as DME Assam releases them on dme.assam.gov.in.

Here’s the confirmed timeline for Round 1 of Assam NEET UG 2026 counselling, as per the official Educational Notice issued by the Director of Medical Education, Assam:

Eligibility Criteria for Assam NEET Counselling 2026

To participate in Assam NEET counselling, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• NEET UG 2026 Qualified: Must have cleared the NEET UG exam with the required cutoff.
• Domicile Requirement: Must be a permanent resident of Assam or have studied in the state for a defined period.
• Age Limit: Must be 17 years or older as of 31st December 2026.
• Educational Qualification:
  
  • Passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
  • Minimum marks:
    
    • General: 50%
    • SC/ST: 40%
    • PWD: 45%

 Step-by-Step Assam NEET Counselling Process

1. Online Registration

• Visit www.dme.assam.gov.in during the registration window (13–15 August 2026).
• Fill in personal, academic, and NEET details.
• Pay the non-refundable counselling fee (approx. ₹500).

2. Publication of Merit List

• The state merit list is prepared based on NEET scores.
• Only candidates in this merit list are eligible to participate in choice filling and allotment.

3. Choice Filling & Locking

• Select preferred colleges and courses in order of priority during 16–18 August 2026 (up to 10:00 PM).
• Lock choices on 18 August 2026 (5:00 PM to 11:55 PM). Choices will be locked automatically if not locked earlier by the deadline. Once submitted/locked, choices cannot be changed.

4. Seat Allotment

• Seat allotment processing takes place from 19 to 21 August 2026, based on NEET score, state rank, category, and preferences.
• Result is declared on 22 August 2026; download the allotment letter for further admission steps.

5. Document Verification & Reporting

• Candidates must report physically to the allotted college within the stipulated time.
• Submit original documents and Annexures (as per MBBS/BDS Admission Rule 2017, Amendment 2026) for verification and confirm admission.

6. Subsequent Rounds

• Unfilled seats are carried forward to Round 2 and Mop-Up rounds (dates to be notified after Round 1).
• Candidates can participate in multiple rounds based on eligibility and willingness for seat upgrade.

 Candidates seeking MBBS admission in Assam should carefully understand the applicable service bond rules before participating in the counselling process. The bond policy is applicable as per the Government of Assam and the competent counselling authority. 

Note: Candidates admitted under the Assam Government MBBS quota are required to complete a 5-year service bond, including 1 year of compulsory rural service. Failure to fulfill the bond conditions may attract a ₹30 lakh penalty. Candidates discontinuing the MBBS course after admission are liable to pay a ₹3 lakh discontinuation penalty, as per the applicable Government of Assam rules. The bond policy is subject to revision by the competent authority.

Assam NEET 2026 – Special Reservation Categories & Seat Matrix (As per Amendment Rules, 2026)

As per the Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges of Assam (Regulations of Admission into 1st year MBBS or BDS Courses) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified by the Government of Assam vide Gazette Notification No. MER.290222/548 dated 5th August 2026, the reservation of seats for the 2026 academic session is as follows:

*Seats for Nagaland shall be reduced after the first batch of MBBS students passes out from the Government Medical College of Nagaland.

Reservation Within State Quota Seats:

To claim any of the above quotas, valid original certificates (as specified in the respective Annexures of the Amendment Rules, 2026) must be submitted during the designated dates in-person at the DME office. Candidates belonging to reserved categories (ST/SC/OBC-MOBC/EWS) will be adjusted against their own category if not selected under a special quota; in case suitable candidates are unavailable, such seats open up as Unreserved.

Assam NEET Counselling 2026 – Registration Fee & Security Deposit

During the counselling process, candidates are required to pay two types of fees:

Registration Fee

• This is a non-refundable fee.
• Paid at the time of online registration (13–15 August 2026).
• Payment can be made through online banking, UPI, debit/credit cards, or bank challan (as per portal instructions).

2. Security Deposit

• This is a refundable amount.
• It is mandatory only for candidates participating in choice filling.
• The deposit is forfeited if a seat is allotted but the candidate fails to join/report.
• It will be refunded after counselling if no seat is allotted or after joining college (as per DME Assam’s refund process).

Important Notes:

• Candidates opting for only government colleges usually pay ₹10,000.
• Those selecting private or both government and private colleges are required to pay ₹1,00,000.
• Security deposit ensures commitment and avoids vacant seats due to non-reporting.
