The Common Law Admission Test Undergraduate (CLAT UG) 2026 is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admission to five-year integrated law programmes such as BA LL.B., BBA LL.B., BCom LL.B., BSc LL.B., and similar courses offered by participating NLUs across India. Admission to NLUs is done exclusively through CLAT UG rank and centralized online counselling conducted by the Consortium.

About CLAT UG 2026

CLAT UG is designed to test a candidate’s reading comprehension, logical thinking, legal aptitude, numerical ability, and awareness of current affairs. The exam emphasizes analytical ability and understanding rather than rote memorization. For the Academic Year 2026–27, CLAT UG was conducted in offline mode at centers across multiple states and union territories in India.

CLAT UG 2026 Exam Highlights

  • Exam date: 7 December 2025 (Sunday)
  • Exam timing: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • PwD and SAP candidates were provided 160 minutes including compensatory time
  • Exam mode: Pen and paper based (offline)
  • Exam centres: 156 centres across 25 States and 4 Union Territories

The exam was conducted in a standardized format to ensure fairness and transparency.

CLAT UG 2026 Question Paper Pattern

CLAT UG consists of five sections with a comprehension-based format.

  • Total questions originally: 120 MCQs
  • One question was withdrawn during evaluation
  • Final score calculation was done out of 119 marks

Marking scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer, –0.25 mark for each incorrect answer, no negative marking for unattempted questions.

  • Current Affairs Including General Knowledge: National & international events, government policies, legal developments, economic affairs, sports, awards, science, environmental issues.
  • Legal Reasoning: Understanding legal principles & applying logically to factual situations.
  • Logical Reasoning: Analytical reasoning, argument evaluation, assumptions, conclusions, cause-effect relationships.
  • Quantitative Techniques: Basic numerical skills like percentages, ratios, averages, profit & loss, interest calculations, data interpretation.
