About the College

Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital (DYPDCH), Pune, was founded in 2000 as part of the larger D.Y. Patil Group of Institutions, and is located at Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri, Pune. It's a constituent college of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), which itself was established by the UGC in 2003.

The college is recognised by the Dental Council of India, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and the Malaysian Dental Council. It's consistently ranked among India's top dental colleges - 3rd nationally by NIRF and 1st in Maharashtra by IIRF in 2023 - and offers high-tech labs, clinics, and a well-stocked library across its campus.

Quota Note: Since DYPDCH is a deemed university college, BDS admission goes through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), not Maharashtra state counselling. Out of the 100 BDS seats, 15 are reserved under NRI/Foreign Nationals/Management quota, with the rest filled through the All India Quota / Deemed University quota.

Why Choose Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College, Pune?

Rankings

A consistent NIRF top-3 and IIRF #1 (Maharashtra) position gives DYPDCH one of the stronger academic reputations among private dental colleges in the country.

Clinical Exposure & Infrastructure

High-tech laboratories, dedicated clinics, and hostel facilities support hands-on training, with a placement track record that's held up well - median BDS package figures have shown a steady upward trend.

Course Spread

MDS is offered across nine specialties with an intake of 49 seats, alongside a Diploma in Dental Mechanics and PhD programmes, giving students a clear path if they want to specialise later.

Research & Outreach

The college runs funded research projects, publications, and regular workshops and community outreach programmes on public health and oral hygiene.

Scholarships

Meritorious and economically backward students are supported through scholarships, worth checking into if cost is a consideration.

After BDS

Graduates typically move into private practice, hospital roles, further studies (MDS), teaching, research, or public health work, in India and abroad.

Note: The minimum age rule has seen legal changes in recent years, so it's worth checking the latest NDC/DCI notification.

Course Duration & Fee Structure

Course Duration

BDS at DYPDCH runs for five years:

  • Four years of academic and clinical study
  • One year of compulsory rotatory internship

Fee Structure

Based on the latest available data, the annual fee is around โ‚น6,50,000 for the UR category and $17,000 for NRI candidates. Note that some sources cite a slightly lower first-year figure (around โ‚น5,50,000-โ‚น6,25,000), so it's worth confirming the exact current-year figure directly with the college.

Beyond tuition, plan for:

  • Hostel and mess charges
  • University exam fees, registration charges
  • Clinical instruments, materials & lab charges
  • Books and other institutional charges

Fee structures do get revised year to year - confirm the exact figure directly with the college before counselling.

Factors Affecting Admission

Your NEET Score & Rank

The higher, the better your odds.

How You Fill Your Choices

Where you place DYPDCH in your preference list matters.

Seat Availability

Depends on the round and category (UR/NRI), with 15 of the 100 seats set aside for NRI/Management quota.

Which Round You're In

The UR rank here loosened notably by Round 5 - from around 4.8 lakh in Round 3 to nearly 7.9 lakh - so it's worth tracking each round rather than assuming a steady trend.

Documents Required

Keep both originals and self-attested photocopies ready.

  • NEET-UG admit card and scorecard
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets/certificates
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate (if applicable)
  • Conduct/character certificate
  • Passport-size photos
  • Aadhaar or other ID proof
  • Community certificate (if applicable)
  • EWS certificate (if applicable)
  • Nativity certificate (if required)
  • Passport, visa, and sponsorship documents (for NRI/foreign candidates)

Career Opportunities After BDS

Once you graduate, options include private practice, government or corporate dental hospitals, cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry, implant clinics, orthodontic or pediatric centres, public health dentistry, research roles, teaching, healthcare admin, or going further with an MDS - in India or abroad, once licensing requirements are met.
