Admissions Handbook 2026–27
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar was established in 1960 by an Act of the State Legislature of Uttar Pradesh, enacted in 1958.
The University was established with the objective of:

GBPUAT provides a wide range of financial assistance, fellowships, scholarships, and fee concessions to support students across Undergraduate, Masters' and Ph.D. programmes.
University Fellowship:
• Two fellowships in each discipline
• Amount: Rs. 6000/- per month
• Duration: Up to 36 months
Award Criteria:
• Based on merit of admitted students
Additional Provision:
• If fellowships remain unutilized, they may be reallocated to other eligible students
• Allocation is based on academic performance (academic rating) after completion of admissions
Graduate Research / Teaching Assistantship:
• Available to up to 50% of students in each major (except self-financing programmes)
Amount:
• Rs. 3000/- per month – for top-ranked student
• Rs. 2000/- per month – for other eligible students
• Awarded as per University regulations for each programme
GATE Fellowship:
• Provided to GATE-qualified students
• Duration: 24 months
Fee Exemption:

Counselling for admission to various programmes at GBPUAT is conducted in a systematic, multi-round process based on merit, availability of seats, and verification of eligibility.
Counselling is conducted for:

Process includes:
• Initial rounds in Online Mode
• Final round (if required) in Offline Mode at the Office of the Controller of Examination
• Counselling begins after declaration of entrance examination results
• Dates decided based on academic session schedule
• Published on the University Admission Portal
Important Instructions:
• Candidates must regularly check the official website
• No individual communication (letter/email/phone) will be sent
• Queries regarding results or counselling will not be entertained
• Eligible candidates must upload documents online for verification
• Only candidates whose documents are verified successfully will be considered for that counselling round and subsequent rounds
• Once documents are verified: No need to re-upload in later rounds
• If documents are found invalid: Candidate can re-upload corrected documents within given time before next round

Seat allotment is based on:
• Merit rank
• Availability of seats
• Verified documents
Once a seat is allotted:
• Candidate must deposit the required fee within deadline
• Failure to do so → Automatic cancellation of seat
• Vacant seats carried forward to next counselling round
• Candidates participating in later rounds can opt for seat upgradation
• If upgraded: Previous seat is automatically surrendered
• Candidate cannot claim previous seat again
• Surrendered seats allotted to next eligible candidates in the same round
• Programme once allotted: Cannot be changed after counselling process is over
• Candidates must ensure documents remain valid during final reporting

If a candidate fails to deposit the prescribed fee within the stipulated time:
• The allotted seat will be automatically cancelled

• Vacant seats of SC / ST / OBC categories:
Will NOT be converted to unreserved category
Will NOT be transferred to any other category
• No inter-category conversion is allowed under any circumstances
• In the last round of counselling: Vacant EWS seats may be allotted to Unreserved candidates of Uttarakhand
• However: These seats will NOT be allotted to Other State candidates, even if vacant
• Vacant seats of horizontal sub-categories (within a vertical category): May be allotted to candidates of the same vertical category
• Applicable only in the last round of counselling for UG programmes
• All vacant seats of Ph.D. programmes (except Veterinary): Will be filled in the first semester through multiple counselling rounds
• Ph.D. (Veterinary Sciences): Counselling will be conducted in the second semester only
• Additional counselling in second semester (if needed): Conducted subject to availability of vacant seats
• Third and subsequent counselling rounds may be conducted if required
• Vacant seats will continue to be filled until: All seats are filled, or counselling rounds are exhausted
• Candidates must regularly check the University website for updates
Reservation of seats for admission is implemented as per Government of Uttarakhand orders and University rules.
• Other Backward Classes (OBC): 14%
• Scheduled Caste (SC): 19%
• Scheduled Tribes (ST): 4%
Important Provisions:
• In Ph.D. programmes only: Unfilled reserved category seats may be converted to General Category seats during II Semester counselling (2026–27) subject to vacancy
• For Payment Seats: Only vertical reservation is applicable. No horizontal reservation applies
• Other State quota seats: Treated as Unreserved. No reservation applicable
Applicable within vertical categories for Undergraduate programmes:
• Children of Defence Personnel (retired/killed/disabled): 5%
• Children of Freedom Fighters: 2%
• Physically Handicapped (≥40% disability): 4%
• Female Candidates (Uttarakhand domicile): 30%
• Orphan Children (Uttarakhand): 5%
• 10% of seats from Unreserved category (Uttarakhand domicile)
• Allotted based on merit in Entrance Examination
• Candidates who have obtained their qualifying degree from GBPUAT:
Treated at par with Unreserved Uttarakhand domicile candidates
Applicable only if they apply under Unreserved quota (Code 1100) – not under Other State quota (Code 3000)

1. University Employee Ward:
• 5% seats in each programme
• For children/spouse of Regular employees and Daily wage workers (≥240 days)
2. ICAR Nominee:
• 10% seats for Foreign Nationals
• Subject to payment of US$ 5000 per annum institutional fee
3. Compassionate Grounds (University Employee Death):
• Up to 2% of seats per programme (minimum 1 seat)
• Must qualify cut-off in Unreserved category
• Must meet minimum eligibility criteria
• Admission subject to Vice-Chancellor approval
4. Kashmiri Migrants / J&K Residents:
• 1 seat in each UG programme (except B.Tech.)
• For Kashmiri migrants / Kashmiri Pandits and Residents of Jammu & Kashmir
• Admission based on Entrance examination merit and fulfillment of eligibility conditions
• Reservation is implemented as per Government Orders (G.O.) of Uttarakhand
• Category once filled in application: Cannot be changed later

1. Application & Admission Process
• Applications are invited through online mode only via the University portal
• No hard copy of the application form is required to be submitted
• Candidates appearing in qualifying examinations are also eligible, subject to submission of marksheets at counselling
• Application once submitted cannot be withdrawn and fee is non-refundable
2. Mode of Admission
• Admission to Undergraduate programmes shall be made strictly on merit based on the Entrance Examination conducted by the University
• Exceptions: B.Tech. programmes (except Food Tech. & Biotech.) through JEE (NTA) counselling; B.V.Sc. admissions for Other State candidates through NEET (VCI)
3. Eligibility Conditions
• Candidates must fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria for the respective programme
• Candidates not meeting eligibility will not be admitted even if included in the merit list
• Candidates appearing in qualifying examinations are eligible provisionally
• Admission remains provisional until document verification
• Selection is based on:
Performance in Entrance Examination, Merit ranking, Applicable reservation rules
• Only eligible candidates will be considered for admission
Admissions to second and third year of Undergraduate programmes are offered in:
• Agriculture
• Community Science
• Fisheries
• Biotechnology
• Food Technology
Admissions will be conducted strictly as per ICAR guidelines
• The number of vacant seats under different categories (SC / ST / OBC / EWS / Unreserved) will be displayed on the University website before the commencement of counselling
Academic Qualification:
• Must have completed First Year / Second Year of UG programme from a recognized institution/university adopting NEP-2020
• The institution must be registered under Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)
• All earned credits must be deposited in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)
Discipline Requirement:
• The candidate must have completed previous year(s) in the same discipline
• Admission will be granted only in the corresponding programme/stream
Academic Performance:
• Minimum required: CGPA ≥ 6.00 (on a 10-point scale)
• Candidate must have passed all courses undertaken during previous year(s)
Verification & Approval:
• Admission is subject to approval by a University Committee, which will verify academic credentials, match completed courses with GBPUAT curriculum, and declare the candidate eligible for admission
