Government Medical College, Nagappatinam  is a newly functioning in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. from the academic year 2021-2022. After the completion of its work, the college was granted admission by the National Medical Commission . In this case, on January 12, 2022, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the college through video.  From the current academic year onwards, admission to junior medical students is done on the basis of NEET score. 150 students are admitted per year.

Affiliated University with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.

The college also has a teaching hospital, which provides clinical training to the students. The hospital has various departments such as medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, and more.
