The Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) in Chittagong (also known as Chattogram) has a long and illustrious history. Founded on 13 May 1989 by National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam, the institute was among the early private medical institutions in Bangladesh. Over time, it has built great name through consistent academic performance, well-recognized affiliations, and a robust teaching hospital. IAHS became a constituent of the University of Science and Technology, Chittagong (USTC) in 1992, and since 2017, it is affiliated with Chittagong Medical University (CMU).
For the MBBS program, the total cost for Indian students at IAHS is approximately $45,300. This total includes hostel accommodation cost for all five years.

To legally practice medicine in India after obtaining an MBBS degree abroad, Indian students must clear the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) or, in the near future, NExT, as mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
FMGE passing rate is available for IAHS for many years. In 2020, 37 out of 250 students who appeared passed (14.80%). In 2021, 30 out of 185 students passed (16.22%). In 2022, 21 out of 156 students passed (13.46%). In 2023, 9 out of 135 students passed (6.67%). In 2024, 16 out of 126 students passed (12.70%).

As per DGME regulations applicable for the 2025–2026 academic session, Indian applicants must have passed Class 10 not earlier than 2022 and Class 12 in either 2024 or 2025, with the Class 12 examination completed within three years of Class 10.
In accordance with the regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC), India, Indian students pursuing MBBS out of India must possess a valid NEET qualification. The NEET result remains valid for three years from the date of declaration.

The admission process for IAHS, Chittagong is highly structured, government-regulated, and strictly controlled by the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Bangladesh. No private medical college—including IAHS—is permitted to admit any foreign student directly without DGME approval. This ensures fairness, transparency, and protection for Indian applicants from unauthorized agents, veiled costs, or improper procedures. The DGME circular dated 10th November 2025 forms the legal foundation for every step Indian students must follow for MBBS admission in Bangladesh for the 2025–26 session.
