JEE Main 2027: Exam Date, Application Form, Eligibility, Syllabus & Counselling Guide

1. Register

Choose Indian National (incl. NRI) or Foreign National (incl. OCI/Cardholder). Accept the declaration and create a password (8–13 characters with upper case, lower case, number and special character).

2. Verify identity

Indian candidates verify identity through Meri Pehchaan / DigiLocker and give consent to share documents with NTA.

3. Personal & contact details

Name, parents' names, date of birth, category, address, mobile number and email. These are verified by OTP. Details cannot be changed after final submission of the registration form.

4. Disability & APAAR ID

Declare PwD/PwBD status (with UDID / certificate details and scribe option, if applicable) and APAAR ID, if you have one.

5. Paper, medium & exam city

Select Paper 1 / 2A / 2B, question paper medium and four exam city choices.

6. Qualification & other details

Class 10 and Class 12 details, twin status, place of birth and emergency contact of parent/guardian (OTP verified).

7. Live photo & documents

Capture a live photograph, then upload photograph, signature and Class 10 certificate/marksheet. The uploaded photo must match the live photo.

8. Final submit & pay fee

Review carefully, submit, pay the fee online and download the Confirmation Page. Keep your Application Number safe.

Year of Passing

No age limit for appearing, though institutes may have their own age criteria.

• Passed Class XII in 2025 or 2026, or appearing in 2027: eligible
• Passed in 2024 or earlier: not eligible
• 'Passing year' = year your result was first declared as pass; improvement attempts do not change it

State of Eligibility (Home State)

• Decided by the state from where you passed Class XII, not your residence or native place
• Example: school in New Delhi, resident of Noida → state code is Delhi
• Improvement from another state: state of first pass counts
• NIOS / BOSSE: state where the study centre is located
• OCI who passed Class XII abroad: All India quota only

Recognised Qualifications

• 10+2 from a recognised Central/State Board (CBSE, CISCE etc.)
• Intermediate / 2-year Pre-University exam
• NIOS Senior Secondary (minimum five subjects)
• AICTE/State Board diploma of at least 3 years
• IB Diploma, Cambridge HSC, GCE A-level, BOSSE Sikkim
• Foreign or other boards: AIU equivalence certificate

Key Points

• Section A: Multiple Choice Questions
• Section B: answer filled as a numerical value
• Negative marking for incorrect answers in both Section A and Section B
• Bring pencils, geometry box, erasers and colour pencils/crayons for the Drawing Test (Paper 2A)

Marks

Paper 1 has 75 questions (300 marks as per the earlier pattern). Exact marks per question and the marking scheme will be as given in the Information Bulletin – check the bulletin for the final scheme.

Paper 2B (B.Planning)

• Part I: same Mathematics syllabus
• Part II Aptitude Test (same as Paper 2A)
• Part III Planning: General Awareness, Social Sciences, Thinking Skills (comprehension, map reading, critical reasoning, charts & graphs)

• 310 exam cities in total: 301 in India and 9 abroad

What Changed in 2026

• 138 institutes: 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 56 GFTIs
• Nine new GFTIs joined, taking GFTIs from 47 to 56
• IIT seats: 18,826 (IITs alone) + 125 (IISc) = 18,951

How These Seats Are Filled

• NITs, IIITs and GFTIs: JEE Main rank
• IITs and IISc: JEE Advanced rank (open to the top ~2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers)
• Class XII needs 75% (65% for SC/ST) or top 20 percentile of the board for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs

How It Works

• NIT seats are split between Home State (HS) and Other State (OS) quotas
• Home State is the state from where you passed Class XII, as per the JEE Main Information Bulletin
• Domicile certificate or place of residence does not decide it

Examples from the Bulletin

• School in New Delhi, resident of Noida: Delhi is the home state, not Uttar Pradesh
• Passed from one state, improvement from another: first-pass state counts
• NIOS / BOSSE: state of the study centre
• OCI who passed Class XII abroad: All India quota only, not Home State

Why It Matters

• Cutoffs for home-state seats are usually lower than other-state seats at the same NIT
• Your Class XII board state decides your quota, so check it in the application form

Who Can Apply

• Foreign Nationals, OCI, PIO and NRI candidates
• Admission uses JEE Main rank
• Separate counselling through CSAB, outside the regular Indian JoSAA quota

• About 15% supernumerary seats in participating institutes
• 5% of seats within this are for CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf)
• Separate CIWG and Non-CIWG choices
