About the College

Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, is one of India's most talked-about dental colleges, founded in 1988 with just 40 students and now a full deemed university constituent. It's part of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Deemed to be University, and sits on a 14-acre campus in Chennai.

The college is recognised by the Dental Council of India, accredited NAAC A, and has topped NIRF's dental college rankings in recent years (No. 1 in 2024). It also treats a very high patient volume - over 3,000 patients a day - which shows up directly in how much hands-on clinical exposure students get.

Since Saveetha is a deemed university, BDS admission goes through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), not Tamil Nadu state counselling. Seats are offered under All India Quota / Deemed University quota, along with Management and NRI quota.

Why Choose Saveetha Dental College?

Rankings & Reputation

Ranked at or near the top of NIRF's dental category in recent years and has also featured in QS World Rankings by Subject - rare for an Indian dental college.

Clinical Volume

Over 3,000 patients treated daily gives students exposure that's genuinely hard to match elsewhere, backed by advanced tech like CEREC, CBCT, and CAD-CAM integrated 3D printing.

Research Infrastructure

First in Tamil Nadu to offer MDS in all nine dental specialties, with serious research equipment - Nano SEM, FT-IR, flow cytometry - plus a dedicated Material Research Lab.

Modern Teaching Methods

Uses iPads, iBooks, chewing and toothbrush simulators, and small-group learning models rather than sticking purely to lecture-based teaching.

Placements

MDS placements have historically been strong, with recruiters like Apollo and Saveetha Medical College hospital picking up graduates; BDS-level placement is comparatively harder.

After BDS

Graduates typically move into private practice, hospital roles, further studies (MDS), teaching, research, or public health work, in India and abroad.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects
  • General category candidates need at least 50% aggregate in PCB
  • Must have qualified NEET-UG, conducted by NTA
  • Should be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year
  • NRI, OCI, PIO, and foreign national applicants are also eligible, subject to NRI category documentation and sponsorship norms

Note: The minimum age rule has seen legal changes in recent years, so it's worth checking the latest NDC/DCI notification.
