About the College

Sri Siddhartha Dental College (SSDC), Tumkur, was founded in 1992 by the Sri Siddhartha Education Society, in a rural setting just 100 metres from Sri Siddhartha Medical College. It became a constituent college of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education (Deemed to be University) after the academy got its deemed status in 2008.

The college is recognised by the Dental Council of India, accredited NAAC A/A+, and also holds recognition from the Government of Malaysia. It sits on a 25-acre campus with a 40,000+ sq. ft. building, and the attached hospital runs with 150+ dental chairs across separate UG and PG clinics.

Quota Note: Since SSDC is a deemed university college, BDS admission goes through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), not Karnataka state counselling. Seats are offered under All India Quota / Deemed University quota, along with Management and NRI quota.

Why Choose Sri Siddhartha Dental College, Tumkur?

Focused, Smaller Batch Size

With a relatively small intake compared to many other deemed dental colleges, students here can expect closer faculty attention and a tighter student-to-chair ratio.

Community-First Approach

The college's motto, "Good citizen first, then good dental surgeon," reflects a broader focus on ethics and rural healthcare access, not just clinical skill.

Infrastructure

150+ dental chairs, separate UG and PG clinics with dedicated seminar halls and labs, plus hostel, canteen, and auditorium facilities on campus.

International Recognition

Being recognised by the Government of Malaysia adds a bit of extra credibility if you're considering practising or studying abroad after your degree.

After BDS

Graduates typically move into private practice, hospital roles, further studies (MDS), teaching, research, or public health and rural dentistry work.

Eligibility Criteria for BDS

  • Passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects
  • General category candidates need at least 50% aggregate in PCB; reserved category (OBC/ST/SC) candidates need 40%, and physically disadvantaged candidates need 45%
  • Must have qualified NEET-UG, conducted by NTA
  • Should be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year
  • NRI, OCI, PIO, and foreign national applicants are also eligible, subject to NRI category documentation and sponsorship norms

Note: The minimum age rule has seen legal changes in recent years, so it's worth checking the latest NDC/DCI notification.

Course Duration & Fee Structure

Course Duration

BDS at SSDC runs for five years:

  • Four years of academic and clinical study
  • One year of compulsory rotatory internship

Fee Structure

Based on the latest available data, the annual fee is around โ‚น3,50,000 for the UR category and โ‚น6,00,000 for NRI candidates. Note that some sources cite a lower base tuition figure (closer to โ‚น95,800-โ‚น3,01,000 depending on quota) with the difference coming from hostel, one-time, and miscellaneous charges - so it's worth getting a clear year-wise breakup directly from the college.

Beyond tuition, plan for:

  • Hostel and mess charges
  • University exam fees, registration charges
  • Clinical instruments, materials & lab charges
  • Books and other institutional charges

Fee structures do get revised year to year - confirm the exact figure directly with the college before counselling.

Factors Affecting Admission

Your NEET Score & Rank

The higher, the better your odds.

How You Fill Your Choices

Where you place SSDC in your preference list matters.

Seat Availability

With only 40 seats, competition per seat is naturally tighter than at colleges with 100-seat intakes.

Which Round You're In

The UR rank here tightened to around 5.06 lakh by Round 3, then loosened slightly to about 5.2 lakh by Round 5, so it's worth tracking each round rather than assuming a steady trend.

Documents Required

Keep both originals and self-attested photocopies ready.

  • NEET-UG admit card and scorecard
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets/certificates
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate (if applicable)
  • Conduct/character certificate
  • Passport-size photos
  • Aadhaar or other ID proof
  • Community certificate (if applicable)
  • EWS certificate (if applicable)
  • Nativity certificate (if required)
  • Passport, visa, and sponsorship documents (for NRI/foreign candidates)

Career Opportunities After BDS

Once you graduate, options include private practice, government or corporate dental hospitals, cosmetic/aesthetic dentistry, implant clinics, orthodontic or pediatric centres, public health dentistry, research roles, teaching, healthcare admin, or going further with an MDS - in India or abroad, once licensing requirements are met.
