What UCEED Tests

UCEED Part-A and Part-B evaluate:

• Visualisation and spatial reasoning
• Practical and scientific knowledge
• Observation and design sensitivity
• Environment and society awareness
• Analytical and logical reasoning
• English language comprehension
• Creativity (analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols)
• Drawing skill and design aptitude (Part-B)

Key Features

• National-level undergraduate design entrance exam
• Mandatory for B.Des. at 7 participating institutes
• Total 300 marks: Part-A (CBT) 200 + Part-B (drawing) 100
• All India Rank (AIR) based seat allocation
• Score valid only for admissions in 2027–28
• Question paper in English only
• No re-evaluation, re-grading or re-totalling

Eligibility Criteria (to appear in UCEED 2027)

Age Limit

• OPEN / EWS / OBC-NCL: born on or after 01 Oct 2002
• SC / ST / PwD: born on or after 01 Oct 1997

Attempts

• Maximum 2 attempts, in consecutive years
• Score is valid for one year only

Qualifying Examination

• Appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) for the first time in 2026 or 2027
• All streams eligible (Science, Commerce, Arts & Humanities)
• First appearance in Class XII in 2025 or earlier → not eligible
• Exception: boards that declared 2024–25 results on or after 30 Sep 2025 – their 2025 candidates are also eligible

Admission is conducted through a centralised Joint Seat Allocation process in five rounds, based on AIR, category and choice of institutes.

Seat acceptance fee: ₹65,000 (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) and ₹20,000 (SC/ST/PwD), including a non-refundable processing fee of ₹5,000.

No spot rounds in IITs; IIITDM Jabalpur may hold an institute-level spot round for vacant seats.

UCEED 2027 Exam Pattern

Total Duration: 3 Hours | Total Marks: 300

Part A (Computer-Based Test): 2 Hours | 200 Marks | 57 questions

Part B (Drawing & Design):

• Duration: 1 hour | Total marks: 100
• Sketching question – 50 marks
• Design aptitude question – 50 marks
• Answers written/drawn in the answer booklet
• Evaluated manually by two expert examiners independently

Part-B is evaluated only for candidates shortlisted on Part-A.

Reservation

• GEN-EWS: 10%
• OBC-NCL: 27%
• SC: 15%
• ST: 7.5%
• PwD: 5% (horizontal, in each category)

OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued on or after 1 April 2026 are accepted for the exam. Foreign nationals get supernumerary seats (max 10%).

Registration Fee (Indian Nationals)

• Female (all categories) / SC / ST / PwD: ₹2,000
• All other candidates: ₹4,000
• Late fee: ₹500 (Indian) / US$ 50 (₹4,800) for foreign nationals
• Foreign nationals: SAARC US$ 200 (₹19,200); Non-SAARC US$ 250 (₹24,000)
