WBJEE Private Engineering Admission
This handbook provides a complete guide for admission to private engineering institutions in West Bengal through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE-2026) conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). Private engineering colleges and universities constitute the largest share of engineering seats in WBJEE counselling, offering a wide variety of programs such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering and emerging interdisciplinary fields.
Admissions are conducted through the centralized WBJEE e-counselling system.
WBJEE counselling allows candidates to secure admission to:

These institutions offer B.Tech / B.E. programs in multiple engineering disciplines. Compared to government institutions:

β’ Tuition fees are generally higher than government colleges.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board conducts centralized admission for both government and private institutions.

β’ Applicant must be an Indian citizen
β’ OCI candidates may apply with restrictions on seat categories.
β’ Minimum age: 17 years as of 31 December 2026
β’ There is no upper age limit for most engineering programs.
Candidates must:
β’ pass the 10+2 examination or equivalent
OR
β’ appear for the 10+2 examination in 2026.
Candidates must have studied:
β’ Physics
β’ Mathematics
β’ One additional subject such as: Chemistry / Computer Science / Electronics / IT / Biology / Biotechnology / Agriculture / Engineering Graphics / Business Studies / Entrepreneurship.
β’ 45% marks (General category)
β’ 40% marks (SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B / PwD)
Marks are calculated based on the required subjects combined.
Additional requirement:
β’ Minimum 30% marks in English.
Admission to private engineering institutions is conducted through centralized online counselling. Major stages include:
β’ counselling registration
β’ choice filling of colleges and branches
β’ choice locking
β’ seat allotment
β’ payment of seat acceptance fee
β’ reporting to allotted institute.
All counselling activities are conducted online through the WBJEE portal.
Candidates must register online on the WBJEE counselling portal.
Registration Fee: 500 (non-refundable)
Once submitted, registration information cannot be edited.
WBJEEB recommends selecting at least 20 choices.

Failure to report leads to cancellation of admission.
Candidates appearing in Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main 2026) can also participate in WBJEE counselling.
Important rule:
β’ Up to 10% of seats in self-financed engineering colleges are reserved for JEE Main candidates.
However, seat allotment is still conducted through the WBJEE counselling portal.
