The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Agartala was established in 2018 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Government of India, Government of Tripura, and industry partners ONGC and NEEPCO. It was later conferred the status of an Institute of National Importance. Currently, the institute operates from a temporary campus at NIT Agartala, with plans for a permanent 52-acre campus in Bodhjungnagar, Tripura.
