Complete Guide โ Postgraduate Medical Admissions
Conducting Authority: Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) | Admission Basis: NEET PG 2026
India has 50 Deemed-to-be-University medical colleges spread across 13 states offering MD/MS (postgraduate medical) seats. Unlike state-quota admissions, seats at deemed universities are filled 100% through NEET PG All India Quota (AIQ) counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), with no domicile restriction. This guide covers colleges, fees, cutoffs, stipends, quota categories, and the counselling process for 2026, based on the most recent published round-wise data.

| Tier | Colleges / Pattern |
|---|---|
| Most Competitive | Kasturba Medical College Manipal & Mangalore, KIMS Bhubaneswar, IMS & SUM Hospital Bhubaneswar, K S Hegde Mangaluru - Round-1 closing ranks for top clinical seats (Dermatology, Radio-diagnosis, General Medicine) in the 4,000โ15,000 band |
| Mid-Tier | JSS Mysuru, JN Medical College Belagavi, Yenepoya Mangalore, D.Y. Patil (Pune/Navi Mumbai), MGM (Navi Mumbai/Aurangabad) - top clinical seats typically close between rank 15,000 and 50,000 |
| Least Competitive | Sri Siddhartha Medical College Tumkur, Sri Siddhartha Institute T Begur, Vels Medical College Chennai, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute Pondicherry, Bhaarath Medical College Chennai - many seats open only from Round 2/3, close beyond rank 80,000โ1,50,000 |
| Non-Clinical (All Colleges) | Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine and Microbiology close very late, typically beyond rank 1,00,000, and often remain available till the final round |
Key trend: Karnataka's older, well-established deemed universities (Manipal group, KIMS Bhubaneswar, Sum Hospital) close clinical seats fastest. Newer or smaller deemed universities, especially several Chennai and Karnataka institutes, see clinical seats remain open until Round 3, with closing ranks well beyond 1,00,000.

Unlike state-quota seats, deemed university seats are open to candidates from any state - there is no home-state eligibility criterion.
Deemed university MD/MS seats do not carry the compulsory government service bond that applies to many state government college seats.
SC/ST/OBC reservation as applicable under central norms applies to a portion of seats depending on the university's own reservation policy; NRI and Management seats follow separate, college-specific rules.
Deemed university fees are generally set by the university/fee-fixation committee and are considerably higher than government college fees, since none of these seats are subsidised by any state government.
Several deemed universities run more than one medical college under the same trust/group - for example, Kasturba Medical College (Manipal & Mangalore), MGM (Navi Mumbai & Aurangabad), D.Y. Patil (Pune & Navi Mumbai), Bharati Vidyapeeth (Pune & Sangli), Sri Siddhartha (Tumkur & T Begur). Fee and stipend structures are usually similar within the same group.
Official seat matrix, allotment results, and fee structures are published by MCC (mcc.nic.in) and by the respective university. Candidates should avoid relying on unofficial sources or agents.
