Tata Group and IISc signed MoU to Establish Tata IISc Medical School in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a significant development for India's healthcare and education sectors, the Tata Group has announced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to establish the Tata IISc Medical School on the IISc campus in Bengaluru. This collaboration is aimed at creating a state-of-the-art institution that merges advanced research with clinical education to transform medical training and healthcare in the country.

Tata Group will contribute Rs 500 crore 

As part of this collaboration, the Tata Group has committed to a funding support of ₹500 crore, as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two organizations. This substantial financial assistance will be pivotal in developing the medical school’s infrastructure, research facilities, and academic programs.

The Tata IISc Medical School aims to serve as a center of excellence that promotes a distinctive approach to clinical research and medical education in India, integrating basic science and engineering with clinical science and practice. It will emphasize various specialties, including oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes and metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, integrative medicine, and public health.

Providing Best clinical services in IISc Medical School

The Tata IISc Medical School plans to provide integrated MD-PhD and various dual degree programs to develop a new group of physician-scientists and medical technologists. These students will receive training concurrently in both the medical school and science and engineering laboratories at IISc, blending advanced clinical practice with scientific research. The medical school aims to create a distinctive model of clinical research and training that could be replicated across the country. It will also partner with prestigious medical schools globally to help students gain international expertise, knowledge, and best practices.

I am confident that the Tata IISc Medical School will significantly contribute to the health of our communities and help position India at the leading edge of the global healthcare transformation.”
