Bihar PG Medical Stipend Hike 2026: First-Year Students to Get ₹92,800 Per Month

The Bihar government has announced a major hike in the monthly stipend for postgraduate medical students, providing increased financial support to doctors undergoing PG medical training in the state.

Under the revised structure, first-year PG medical students will now receive ₹92,800 per month, while second-year students will get ₹1,02,000 per month. The stipend for third-year postgraduate medical students has been increased to ₹1,12,200 per month. The revised rates are effective from January 1, 2026.

2nd Year₹90,200/month₹1,02,000/month
3rd Year₹99,220/month₹1,12,200/month

The revision means first-year students will receive an additional ₹10,800 per month, while the increase is ₹11,800 for second-year students and ₹12,980 for third-year students.

Revised Stipend Effective From January 2026

A key feature of the Bihar government's decision is that the revised stipend will be applicable retrospectively from January 1, 2026.

This makes the announcement particularly significant for PG medical students who have been receiving the earlier stipend rates during the year. The revised amount is intended to provide better financial support to postgraduate students who are actively involved in patient care and hospital services under the supervision of senior doctors.

Bihar Health Minister on PG Stipend Hike

Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar said the revised stipend would provide better financial support to postgraduate medical students and help encourage quality human resources in medical education.

PG residents play an important role in patient treatment and hospital services while working under the supervision of senior doctors. The stipend revision is therefore expected to provide additional financial support during their postgraduate training.

What the Bihar PG Stipend Hike Means for NEET PG Aspirants

The increase in stipend could become an important consideration for doctors evaluating postgraduate medical colleges during NEET PG counselling.

Candidates generally compare several factors before choosing an MD/MS college, including:

  • Clinical exposure
  • Patient load
  • Academic environment
  • Faculty
  • Infrastructure
  • Hostel facilities
  • Tuition fees
  • Stipend
  • Bond and service conditions
  • Future career opportunities

The revised Bihar stipend adds another positive factor for students considering government medical institutions in the state.
