Established in 1921, Harcourt Butler Technical University has consistently remained a paragon and source of inspiration in the field of science and technology. As per Act No. 11 of 2016 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the institute was upgraded to a State University and is now known as Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur, effective 01 September 2016.

📚 Academic Eligibility

• Must have passed Intermediate / 10+2 from UP Board or equivalent recognized Board/University
• Minimum five subjects including: Physics and Mathematics (compulsory) and one of Chemistry / Bio-technology / Biology / Computer Science (Technical Vocational)

Minimum Aggregate in above three subjects:
• 55% – General
• 50% – SC / ST / OBC-NCL / PwD

• All other eligibility conditions for JEE (Mains)-2026 shall apply

📍 Domicile Requirement

Home State Seats:
• Passed 10+2 from institution in U.P. → Eligible (No domicile certificate needed)
• Passed from outside U.P. but parent is Permanent Resident of U.P. → Submit Permanent Residence Certificate (Certificate No. 03) issued on or after 01.04.2026
• Wards of Defence Personnel settled/posted in U.P. on JEE (Mains) 2026 date → Certificate No. 5
• Wards of All India Services (U.P. Cadre) employees → Certificate No. 10

Other State Seats (5% Supernumerary):
• Candidate & parents both domicile of other state, passed 10+2 outside U.P.
• Entitled to vertical reservation only (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) as per Central Government list
• Category certificate issued by Central Government only considered

💰 Tuition Fee Waiver Schemes

TFW Scheme:
• Available in all B.Tech. programmes
• Up to maximum 5% of approved intake on supernumerary basis
• ₹75,000 Tuition Fee waived; all other charges payable

Full Fee Waiver:
• Two Full Fee Waiver seats available in all B.Tech. programmes
