NEET UG Counselling Process for Tamil Nadu 

Eligibiity 

o  Candidates must have passed the 12th standard (or equivalent) examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as subjects from a recognized board.

o    General category students need at least 50% marks in the 12th standard, while SC/ST/OBC candidates require 40% marks.

o    Candidates must have appeared for NEET UG and obtained the minimum qualifying score.

    Age Limit:

o    The candidate must be at least 17 years old as of December 31st of the admission year.

o    There is no upper age limit to apply for NEET UG.

Domicile Criteria:

    Tamil Nadu Domicile:

o    The candidate must be a resident of Tamil Nadu to be eligible for state quota seats.

o    Candidates born in Tamil Nadu or residing in Tamil Nadu for the last 5 years are eligible.

o    For non-Tamil Nadu residents, the candidate can apply for All India Quota (AIQ) seats.

    Native of Tamil Nadu:

o    Candidates who belong to Tamil Nadu but have studied outside Tamil Nadu can apply for counselling under the Tamil Nadu domicile quota.


NEET UG Counselling Process:

The Tamil Nadu Medical Education (TNMEE) Department conducts the NEET UG counselling for both government and private medical colleges in the state. The counselling process involves several steps:

    Step 1: Registration

o    Candidates need to visit the official website of the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu and register for counselling after the NEET results are declared.

    Step 2: Document Verification

o    Candidates must verify their documents at the designated verification centers (this is a crucial step in the counselling process).

    Step 3: Filling Choices

o    After document verification, candidates must fill in their preferences for colleges and courses.

    Step 4: Merit List

o    The merit list for Tamil Nadu NEET UG candidates is published based on the NEET UG score and rank.

    Step 5: Seat Allotment

o    Seats are allotted based on merit and the candidate’s preferences, and the allotment list will be published on the official website.

    Step 6: Reporting to Allotted College

o    After the seat allotment, candidates must report to the allotted college for admission formalities.

Reservation of Seats in Tamil Nadu:

Tamil Nadu follows a reservation policy for medical admissions based on caste and social categories:

    General (Open Category): 31%

    Backward Class (BC): 26.5%

    Backward Class Muslims (BCM): 3.5%

    Most Backward Class (MBC): 20%

    Scheduled Caste (SC): 18%

    Scheduled Tribe (ST): 1%

Additionally, there are also horizontal reservations for:

    Persons with Disabilities (PWD): 5% reservation for the disabled category.

    Special Categories: Such as government employees, ex-servicemen, etc., with specific percentage reservations.
