Amit Shah to Inaugurate KLE JGMM Medical College Building and 1,200-Bed Hospital in Hubballi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the new academic building of KLE Jagadguru Gangadhar Mahaswamigalu Moorusavirmath Medical College (JGMMMC) and the 1,200-bed KLE Hospital & Medical Research Centre at Gabbur in Hubballi on September 19, 2026.
The integrated medical campus is being developed by the Karnatak Lingayat Education (KLE) Society under KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (KAHER), with a focus on medical education, advanced healthcare and research in North Karnataka.
₹700 Crore Integrated Medical Campus
The Gabbur campus has been developed across about 50 acres, with more than 30 lakh square feet of built-up area. The project has involved an investment of approximately ₹700 crore.
The campus brings together the medical college, teaching hospital, academic facilities, clinical services, research infrastructure and student facilities.
KLE JGMM Medical College MBBS Intake Increased to 250 Seats
KLE JGMM Medical College received approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) in October 2021 with an annual intake of 150 MBBS students. Its first batch was admitted in February 2022.
The MBBS intake was increased to 200 seats in 2025–26 and has now been increased to 250 seats from the 2026–27 academic year. The college currently has around 800 MBBS students across five batches.
The institution is also preparing to introduce postgraduate programmes across 20 departments from the next academic year, subject to the required approvals.
1,200-Bed KLE Hospital & Medical Research Centre
The KLE Hospital & Medical Research Centre (HMRC) began services on January 1, 2025. It has been developed as a multi-specialty and super-specialty teaching hospital with a capacity of 1,200 beds.
The hospital includes facilities such as:
- Operation theatres
- Intensive care units
- Emergency and trauma care
- Advanced laboratories
- Radiology and diagnostic services
- Multi-specialty clinical departments
- Super-specialty services
Current super-specialty services include neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology and endocrinology. Cardiology, oncology and organ transplantation services are expected to be introduced subsequently.
300 Beds Reserved for Free Treatment
According to the reported details, 300 of the hospital's 1,200 beds are earmarked for free treatment of underprivileged patients.
The institution has also stated that it provides free and subsidised healthcare to eligible patients.
The hospital is intended to serve patients from Hubballi-Dharwad and other parts of North Karnataka, while also providing clinical exposure to medical students.
Focus on Medical Education and Research
The new academic campus includes lecture theatres, simulation laboratories, museums, research facilities, a central library and hostels.
Faculty members have also received competitive research funding, including an ICMR grant of ₹1.4 crore, according to KLE representatives.
The teaching hospital will provide students with clinical training across multiple specialties and super-specialties, linking medical education with patient care and research.
