NEET PG 2024 Supreme Court Hearing Resumes Today

The Supreme Court of India is set to resume its hearing today, September 27, regarding the NEET PG 2024 examination. This session follows petitions filed by students challenging the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for its lack of transparency concerning the withholding of question papers, answer keys, and students' response sheets from the NEET PG 2024 exams.

Background of the Case

The petitions arise from concerns over the opaque marking scheme used for the NEET PG results, which were announced on August 23, 2024. Petitioners argue that the absence of clarity around the evaluation process significantly hinders candidates' ability to verify their scores and understand how their answers were assessed.

During today’s proceedings, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud raised critical questions regarding NBEMS's decision to modify the exam pattern just three days before the tests. He described this approach as "unusual," warning that such last-minute changes could lead to significant stress and confusion among students. The NBEMS has been ordered to submit a detailed response within a week, addressing the rationale behind these modifications.

Recap of the Previous Hearing

In the prior hearing on September 20, 2024, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of the changes to the exam format. The bench highlighted the undue pressure placed on students due to these abrupt alterations and instructed the NBEMS to provide a comprehensive explanation for the last-minute adjustments.

NEET PG 2024 Counselling Update

While the final verdict on the NEET PG 2024 examination is still pending, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has already begun the registration process for NEET PG counselling as of September 20, 2024. Candidates who have successfully passed the NEET PG exams can register for counselling through the MCC’s official website at mcc.nic.in. However, students are advised that the complete counselling schedule, including details on all three rounds of counselling, is still awaited and will be announced soon.
