A petition that was submitted by a female candidate brought up a possible power outage at 3:30 PM, within the examination window of 2 PM to 5 PM, for PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 road, Indore. Consequently, candidates were forced to work on the examination without any backup power systems in very graduation lighting conditions; emergency lighting (candle) was arranged, and between 4 PM and 4:30 PM. This left candidates only 30 minutes to complete their examination. The petitioner maintained that the emergency conditions hindered the fairness of their examination and requested either a re-examination for the affected candidates, or some other remedial relief.
Court's Observations and Orders
Justice Subodh Abhyankar noted that the respondents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union of India, did not show up in court when they had been previously directed to do. After hearing the petitioner's case, the court remarked that the examination conditions had been affected by the electricity failure, and that the authorities failed to make alternative arrangements. Therefore, the court directed that the NEET-UG 2025 results will not be declared until the next hearing.
Implications for Aspirants
The interim stay disposal left many of the large number of NEET-UG 2025 candidates, waiting for their result, in limbo. The next hearing is set for June 30, 2025, and the court will further discuss the matter. The NTA has not yet made an official comment on the Court's order, nor the allegations.
