NEET PG 2024 Cutoff Reduction and How Will It Affect Counselling

The NEET PG 2024 Cutoff Reduction

The NEET PG 2024 entrance examination has been a major point of focus for medical aspirants this year, especially with the potential reduction in the cutoff score. Recently, the Delhi High Court has raised important questions regarding the cutoff and its impact on counselling processes.

The Union of India (through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, MoHFW, and the National Medical Commission, NMC) has submitted to the Delhi High Court that the NEET PG 2024 cutoff reduction file is currently under review. The Court has noted that the final decision on whether the cutoff will be reduced is expected shortly, with the likely announcement due by January 2, 2025. If the cutoff is indeed lowered, it would address the issues raised by petitioners, and candidates who were initially ineligible could gain a chance to participate in counselling.

The matter has been scheduled for a follow-up review on January 3, 2025, for further updates.

What Does This Mean for NEET PG 2024 Candidates?

If the cutoff reduction is approved, the NEET PG 2024 counselling schedule will be significantly impacted.

1. Pending Decision: When Will the Cutoff Reduction Be Finalized?

As of now, the decision to reduce the cutoff is still pending approval from MoHFW. The official announcement, expected on January 2, 2025, will shed light on the revised cutoff scores. Candidates must stay alert to updates from the NMC and the National Board of Examinations (NBE) regarding the changes.

2. Counselling Delays and Revised Schedule

The reduction in the NEET PG cutoff will likely necessitate revisions to the existing counselling schedules. The third round of counselling could be delayed by a few days to a week to accommodate newly eligible candidates under the reduced cutoff. Following the MoHFW’s approval, the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) will release an updated counselling timeline.

3. Fresh Registration for Newly Eligible Candidates

Once the cutoff reduction is announced, fresh registrations will open for candidates who are now eligible under the revised cutoff. These candidates will be able to participate in the third round of counselling. The new registration window will give them a chance to fill their preferences and secure a seat in medical colleges.

4. Impact on Choice Filling and Seat Allocation

If the cutoff is reduced, there might be changes in the timing of choice filling for eligible candidates. Current eligible candidates may start the process, but it could be extended or modified to accommodate the influx of new registrants under the revised cutoff.

What is the Expected Extent of the Cutoff Reduction?

At this stage, there is no official information about how much the cutoff will be reduced. The Ministry’s decision and official notifications from the NMC and NBE will clarify this once the process is finalized.

Other Pending Issues in NEET PG 2024 Counselling

Aside from the cutoff reduction, other issues are also delaying the counselling process:

  • Indian to NRI seat conversion decisions are still pending.
  • Telangana candidates may face challenges due to delayed timelines, and may need to request an extension for resigning from AI Round 2 seats.

Process for NEET PG 2024 Cutoff Reduction: What Happens Next?

  1. MoHFW Approval: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will approve the cutoff reduction.
  2. NMC Notification: The NMC will issue an official notification regarding the revised cutoff.
  3. NBE Update: The National Board of Examinations will publish the updated cutoff.
  4. MCC Revised Counselling Schedule: The Medical Counselling Committee will adjust the counselling schedule to reflect the changes and allow fresh registrations.

What Should Students Do Now?
Check for Updates Regularly: Students should check for notifications from NMC and MCC regularly to know when the new schedule is out.
Be Ready for Delays: Be prepared for a delay of 3-4 days in the counselling process because of the changes in the cutoff.
Don’t Worry About the Exact Cutoff: Right now, it’s not clear by how much the cutoff will be reduced. Students need to wait for the official announcement to know for sure.
Request Extensions if Needed: Students from Telangana who might have to give up seats can ask for more time if counselling delays happen.

The decision about the NEET PG 2024 cutoff reduction is coming soon. If the cutoff is reduced, counselling will be delayed, and new eligible students will get a chance to join. Make sure to stay updated on official announcements and prepare for some delays in the process. Keep checking for new updates and be patient, as the exact details will be shared after January 2, 2025.
