UP Govt clears three private universities, UK Scholarship Scheme, and amended Policy.

Vedanta University  KD University   Bodhisattva University

Promote higher education in UP, Three new private universities have been opened, for which UK scholarships have been approved.

Lucknow, On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a number of proposals related to higher education, international scholarships, and reforms in urban governance, setting the stage for the establishment of new private universities, a UK partnership similar to the Chevening program, and a long-term strategy for regulating municipal advertisements.

The Cabinet's decisions, which were led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, were revealed by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna alongside his cabinet colleagues Rakesh Sachan and Yogendra Upadhyay during a press briefing here.

These three moves collectively indicate the government's plan to increase academic infrastructure, provide exposure for international opportunities, and promote improved regulation and revenue generation on the ground level.

1.The Uttar Pradesh government has approved Vedanta University to be set up on 23.3349 acres of land in the Hussainpur Bopada village in the Khatauli tehsil and under the jurisdiction of the Muzaffarnagar Development Authority. This was approved after being recommended by a top-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary, which recommended that the Letter of Intent be issued on December 19, 2024.

Furthermore, the state has launched the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee–Chevening UP State Government Scholarship Scheme along with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Five meritorious students from Uttar Pradesh will be provided a one-year master's degree scholarship in the UK every year, which will include their tuition fees, living expenses, and return airfare.

2. The Uttar Pradesh government has given approval for the establishment of KD University in Mathura, which shall be built by the Rajiv Memorial Academic Welfare Society on about 50.54 acres in Akbarpur village, Chhata tehsil. Alongside, the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee–Chevening UP State Government Scholarship Scheme has been initiated in cooperation with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This program will give scholarships annually to five talented students for a one-year master's course of study in the UK, covering tuition fees, research/exam fees, living allowance, and return economy flights. The scheme will start in 2025-26 and run for three years.

3. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has also given its consent for the establishment of Bodhisattva University in Barabanki, to be set up by the Bodhisattva Charitable Trust on a total area of around 25.31 acres at Gadia village, Nawabganj tehsil. Concurrently, the government has also sanctioned the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee–Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. This scholarship scheme will enable five meritorious students from Uttar Pradesh to pursue a one-year master's program in the UK, including tuition fees, living costs, and return air travel.

Another priority of the policy is its focus on eco-friendly and digital advertisement techniques. The government has promoted the deployment of LED boards, solar-powered signs, and reusable materials in order to reduce environmental degradation.

A Holistic Model for Growth

Together, these three initiatives are a holistic model of development by the Uttar Pradesh government—tackling education, skill development, global exposure, and urban management in totality.

Educational Infrastructure: Fresh private universities will provide additional seats, courses, and research avenues for students in the state.

Global Opportunities: The UK scholarship program will serve to bridge local talent with top-notch education, fostering brain gain rather than brain drain.

Urban Reform: The municipal advertising policy reform will beautify cities vis-a-vis their aesthetics while creating sustainable income streams for urban development initiatives.

By doing so, the UP government is indicating its interest in long-term, sustainable development that serves people from all socio-economic strata. Whether it is a student who wants to study AI in London, a local youth studying in a new college in their locality, or a city dweller with cleaner streets and improved amenities courtesy of municipal ad revenue, the effect is likely to cut across broadly.
