IT Mesra and IIT Kanpur have signed a five-year agreement to promote joint research, student exchange, internships and academic development. The partnership aims to provide students and faculty members with better research opportunities and access to specialised facilities.

Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, Ranchi, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen research activities and academic collaboration.

The agreement aims to bring both institutions together to improve higher education, encourage innovation and provide students with more opportunities to gain practical research experience.

The MoU was signed by BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Professor Indranil Manna and IIT Kanpur Director Professor Manindra Agrawal.

What Does the MoU Include?

The five-year agreement will focus on several areas of academic cooperation. These include undergraduate and postgraduate research, student exchange programmes, internships, joint academic supervision and faculty development.

research and innovation

The partnership will allow students and faculty members from both institutions to work together on research projects and academic activities.

Joint Research Opportunities for Students

One of the important features of the agreement is the opportunity for students to participate in joint research projects.

Under the arrangement, faculty members from both institutions will jointly guide undergraduate research projects from the third year onwards. For postgraduate students, joint guidance will be available from the first semester.

This initiative is expected to help students develop research skills, gain practical knowledge and work on projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members.

Student Exchange and Internship Programmes

The MoU also includes student exchange opportunities between BIT Mesra and IIT Kanpur.

Students may get opportunities to participate in:

- Summer and winter internship programmes.

- Short-term academic courses.

- Workshops and research activities.

- Exchange programmes at both institutions.

These programmes will help students interact with researchers, learn new skills and gain exposure to different academic environments.

Access to Research Facilities and Faculty Development

The agreement also focuses on sharing academic resources and research facilities.

Students from BIT Mesra may get opportunities to visit specialised laboratories at IIT Kanpur and participate in research activities, depending on the terms of individual programmes.

The partnership will also encourage faculty exchange, professional development programmes and short-duration training sessions for staff members and officers.

What Did BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Say?

Speaking about the partnership, BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Professor Indranil Manna said that the agreement would create new opportunities for students and faculty members to participate in advanced research and benefit from specialised academic knowledge.

He also highlighted the importance of strong educational institutions, skilled professionals and research development in achieving India's vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

According to him, collaboration between the two institutions can support joint research, technology development and the preparation of graduates who can contribute to India's future scientific and technological requirements.

How Will This Partnership Benefit Students?

The collaboration between BIT Mesra and IIT Kanpur is expected to strengthen academic and research opportunities for students.

Through joint projects, internships, laboratory visits and academic exchange programmes, students may gain valuable exposure beyond their regular classroom learning.

The partnership also aims to encourage innovation, improve research capabilities and strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions.

The five-year MoU marks an important step towards building stronger academic connections between BIT Mesra and IIT Kanpur, with a focus on research, technology and student development.
