Uttar Pradesh Launches Annual UK Scholarship Scheme for Five Students

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Saturday that a new scholarship initiative has been approved by the state cabinet. This program will select five students from Uttar Pradesh every year to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom. The announcement was made during a memorial meeting in Lucknow commemorating the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Both the British and Uttar Pradesh governments will share the scholarship costs equally. The initiative is named after Vajpayee to honor his legacy. While speaking to the audience, the Chief Minister remarked, “Recently, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cabinet decided to choose five students annually for scholarships for higher education in Britain. The British government will fund half of the expenses, while the UP government will take care of the remaining half. This scholarship, named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is regarded as prestigious in Britain. The state government is committed to honoring the memory of Atal Ji through this initiative.”

The Chief Minister paid tribute at the statue of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Lok Bhawan on his death anniversary. Yogi Adityanath reflected on Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s significant contributions to Indian politics. During the same occasion, he also paid floral respects to the freedom fighter and warrior queen, Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi, in celebration of her birth anniversary.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Vajpayee’s six-decade political career provided new guidance for Indian politics. He underscored Vajpayee’s dedication to India’s fundamental values and ideals, exemplified a successful development model within the country, and enhanced India’s prestige and cultural identity globally.

In addition, the Chief Minister noted that the state government is actively planning to erect a statue of Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi. He mentioned that the government has consistently made significant efforts to honor and acknowledge women's contributions in Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister conveyed that the sacrifices and struggles of this valiant warrior for Bharat Mata will serve as an eternal source of motivation, and he offered his sincere respects to her. Present at the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, BJP State President Bhupendra Singh Patel, and Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, among others.
