Jindal Global University Launches India’s First BA in Artificial Intelligence and Law
New Delhi: O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has introduced India’s first-ever Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Law, marking a significant step in interdisciplinary education. This pioneering course aims to equip students with a robust understanding of AI technologies combined with essential legal frameworks.
Aspiring students need to clear either the LNAT-UK or JSAT-Law entrance exams to secure admission. According to Prof. C Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of JGU, “For the current intake, admissions will be based on LNAT-UK and JSAT-Law scores, with considerations for CLAT-UG and CUET-UG starting from the next academic session.” The programme welcomes students from all academic streams, including Humanities, Science, and Commerce, with an initial batch strength of 60 students.
The BA AI and Law programme is designed to prepare graduates for careers in technology law, AI policymaking, compliance, and ethical governance. Students will gain a deep understanding of how AI intersects with legal systems, empowering them to address modern challenges in a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
The launch event at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) was graced by notable dignitaries, including Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Founding Chancellor Naveen Jindal, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, and Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi.
Addressing the audience, Union Law Minister Meghwal emphasized the growing role of technology in law, stating, “We must embrace technological advancements while ensuring ethical considerations and privacy protections. AI has immense potential to aid in areas like resolving pending court cases and breaking language barriers, but the human element will always remain essential.”
About the BA AI and Law Programme
The three-year BA AI and Law programme is structured over six semesters, blending core legal subjects with AI-focused studies:
- Semester 1: Legal Principles of Torts, Introduction to World’s Legal Systems, Political and Legal Thought, Legal English
- Semester 2: Introduction to the Constitution of India, Economic Theory, History of Courts, Legislature and Legal Profession in India, Theory and Practice of Contracts in India
- Semester 3: Commercial Transactions, Conflict of Law, International Law and Relations, Gender and Society
- Semester 4: Constitutional Theory, Corporate Governance in India, Foundations of Human Rights, Administrative Framework in India
- Semester 5: Cross-border Trade and Investment, Financial Market Regulation
- Semester 6: Regulation of Technology and Cyberspace, JGLS Elective
Each semester includes a mandatory internship, providing hands-on experience in legal and tech environments.
Course Fee & Scholarships
