How to Apply for IMAT 2024
Applying for the IMAT 2024 involves two essential steps:
- Ensure your eligibility: Make sure you meet the admission requirements of the Italian universities you wish to apply to. This includes having the necessary qualifications and documentation.
- Complete your IMAT registration: After successfully registering on Universitaly, you’ll need to select the universities you’re interested in during the application process. It’s crucial to be strategic when choosing universities, as this will determine your potential placement based on your IMAT score.
What to Expect After the IMAT 2024 Exam?
Once the IMAT 2024 is over, the next big step is the ranking process. On October 10th, 2024, the national rankings will be released, and you will be able to check your score by logging into your Universitaly account. There, you’ll see:
- Your Score
- Your Position in the Ranking
- Your Status: which could be ASSIGNED, BOOKED, WAITING, or NOT RANKING.
Assigned means you have secured a place in your chosen university, and you must confirm your enrollment within 4 business days. Booked means you have been offered a seat at a university other than your first choice, and you can either accept it or wait for a higher-preference seat. Waiting indicates that you are on the list for a seat but haven't been offered one yet. Finally, Not Ranking means that unfortunately, you did not score high enough to secure a place.
IMAT 2024 Rankings: Key Insights
The anonymous IMAT 2024 results will be released on September 26th, 2024, with the national ranking list following shortly after. This year, 10,931 participants took the test, and the competition is fierce. The highest score so far is 87, achieved at a foreign location, with the highest score in Italy being 86.2, recorded in Bologna. The average score for IMAT 2024 stands at 42.1 points, a significant increase from previous years, signaling a shift in the level of preparation among candidates.
Available Seats for IMAT 2024
For the academic year 2024/2025, the following seats are available:
- EU Medicine and Surgery: 919 places
- Non-EU Medicine and Surgery: 475 places
- EU Dentistry: 42 places
- Non-EU Dentistry: 18 places
It’s important to remember that rankings for EU and non-EU candidates are separate, and any unfilled non-EU seats will be reallocated to EU students, potentially allowing for more movement in the rankings.
What Happens If You Don’t Make the Cut?
If your score is below the minimum ranking on October 10th, don’t lose hope. The ranking list tends to shift as students withdraw or accept other offers, leading to scrolling of the list. This means even if you’re Waiting, you still have a chance of securing a place as higher-ranked students make their choices.
